By all means you have a right to not take orders 17 minutes before your close, but you should be able to pick up the phone and let your customers know that you are closed. Cutting off your phone line so the call can’t even going through is just a whole different ball game.

It was once a nice location. I went there today in search of a sub, took a few bites, discovered a hair, and phoned them back to report it. The woman on the phone advised me to come back without saying anything further, so I drove back for ten minutes just to have the guy say, "I'm sorry it happens, do you want a new one," presumably indicating this has occurred more than once.
