You can always enjoy nicely cooked chicken, sandwiches and fish & chips at this restaurant. That's a good idea to order tasty pancakes, muffins and waffles. Coffee is good, try it. I loved the food and it came out pretty fast! I really liked the chicken sausage and it felt like a lot of food for the price. My partner didn’t enjoy their pancake as much, they thought it tasted not homemade - so it just depends on what you get! Black Bear Diner was well worth the wait! The service was fast with a friendly atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and portion sizes are HUGE! They also have a small gift shop area with cute pj's, blankets, books, gloves, tumblers, and stuffed bears. My local go to breakfast spot! If we have out of town visitors this is were we eat for a clean, friendly, delicious meal. The portions are huge and my kids love this place too. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Never pushy or rush you. Also they have never burnt or shorted me on my hash browns which I am forever grateful for lol. 12/3/23 I've been here before for dinner but I don't really remember the experience. But I went in today for breakfast not by my choice at all. Friends invited me. I got the griz breakfast which comes with 3 eggs some bacon, hash browns, pancakes and I got side of grits with a Pepsi. Eggs were okay, Hash browns was terrible, tasted like fake potatoes. Bacon was terrible. Way overcooked, did not taste like pork. Grits what is good but watery. Best thing about this breakfast was my pancakes and my Pepsi. It's about $20 a person just for breakfast. Probably the worst club sandwich I’ve ever had. It was basically white toast with a pinch of turkey and ham. The lettuce was the size of a postage stamp and the tomatoes were inedible. My drink was never refilled but my husbands was. Our server was lucky he grabbed the check instead of me. He did say his burger was good. This was my wife and I's first time dining at Black Bear Diner but it will not be the last. The server was very helpful in assisting with the meal. The food came out hot and delicious. The first time my family & I ever went to a Black Bear Diner restaurant was back in April 2021, and we went to the location in Independence, Missouri and also the Black Bear Diner location in St. Charles, Missouri too. The concept of Black Bear Diner is homestyle-cooked and old-fashioned comfort foods served in a country & rural themed restaurant with "over-the-top bear paraphernalia." Customers will see murals and artwork with nature and bears that are created for every single Black Bear Diner restaurant across the United States of America. Customers will also see a bakery counter with freshly baked pies, shelves with restaurant apparel that is related to and resembles the Black Bear, and a jukebox like any other diner. Black Bear Diner has a lunch counter with bear-shaped chairs because most diner businesses have lunch counters with diner stools. The menu at Black Bear Diner has a wide variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Since the word “diner” is in the restaurant chain’s name, Black Bear Diner offers family meals such as breakfast, burgers, salads, and ice cream milkshakes. Breakfast at Black Bear Diner is served ALL DAY no matter what time of day it is at their restaurants. When me and my dad first went to Black Bear Diner in Independence, Missouri, we both had the BIGFOOT Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs breakfast platter and by the time me and my father had our bellies stuffed, we asked for takeout containers because we were not able to finish our meals inside the restaurant. However, we did finish some of our meals when we returned home but it was later in the day. Me and my father were satisfied with our food, and we were also impressed with Black Bear Diner’s service. If customers are looking for a homestyle family restaurant with its interior decorated with country and rural area themed vibes, I would recommend Black Bear Diner for its satisfying and generous portions for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert. I would also say that Black Bear Diner is likely to make its customers feel like they are almost somewhere in the countryside. This is my second time at this restaurant and this might be one of my favorite new go-to spots in the area! They serve breakfast all day and have a little bit of everything on their menu! We ordered Chicken Fried steak with mashed potatoes and cheesy grits, As well as the “bear” breakfast combo with eggs, French toast, sausage, and a side of hash browns. Both platters were massive with more than enough portions. The french toast were soft, perfect texture and the chicken fried steak was really good as well. The price was fair coming in at $38 with all the food. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I like the decor here! It’s bear-themed to the extreme, but cute nonetheless. This even extends to the exterior. The place could be kept in cleaner condition (dining areas and restroom). The staff probably can’t keep up with the sloppiness of the clientele, but still, it detracts somewhat. The food is very nice, and the helpings are extra size/good value. Most dishes could probably be split. The coffee is pretty good, though I’m not sure it’s worth $3.49 per cup (don’t believe the coffee 5¢ sign). The service is very pleasant and attentive.
