Small storefront attached to a coffee bean roasting /processing facility. Industrial setting.
Superb setup. Polite informative staff. Helpful with out being pushy. Lots of flavors. Whole roasted coffee beans infused with numerous flavors including vanilla, pineapple, cherry. Can’t wait to try several.
Certainly they have the beans and a variety of coffee merchandise.
Glass windows let one see from the store into the “factory” processing center. Pallets of beans from all over…Ecuador, Kenya, Ethiopia, Columbia and various other countries…plus Hawaii.
Smells are free so go and enjoy
Updates: The bourbon coffee scent was a bit strong for me, but my team at work enjoyed it. Be careful if your work environment is a bit "sensitive" because this coffee will give you bourbon breath 😲😁😂. I didn't try it because I didn't like the scent, which could be because I had a migraine that day and was feeling sick. The next day, I brought in the Michigan Dark Cherry... Smelled so good! I drank it black with lots of sugar in ice, and it was good but it would be more like dessert if I had some soy milk. The Grandma's hot chocolate was yummy. I love a lot of sugar, and feel it is not sweet enough for me. But it is better for me with less sugar. I enjoyed it just the way it is. I really enjoyed trying the Black Powder Coffee.
Upon arriving at Black Powder Coffee... suite 10 is actually around the corner. When I got out of my car, I can smell the aroma of the coffee. The young lady who helped me was somewhat helpful. She hasn't tried all the coffee available, and not knowledge in all of them. Fortunately, she was able to answer most of my questions, and she was very helpful. The coffee is sold as whole beans, but they do offer the grinding service... For drip and for French Pressed. They had the 14kt Gold for sampling. I'm not a "bean water" drinker, prefer my coffee with cream and sugar and dessert like... The 14Kt Gold coffee was too bitter for me. I bought a bag of dark cherry and hot chocolate for me. I also got a bag of bourbon infused for my team at work, and a bag of reserved Ethiopian for my director who loves Ethiopian coffee. I hope he will like this one.
This is definitely more of an industrial facility, don't expect a cafe or something even remotely resembling one. It's a little out of the way, but if you want to buy some freshly roasted beans right from the source, you can't beat this place. My beans were literally roasted yesterday according to the bag.
The retail counter only allows 1 person in at a time, and rightfully so; it's tiny. I knew what I wanted, requesting the euro espresso beans. I was cheerfully greeted, made my purchase, and recieved my bag o beans and was on my way.
Woweeee this is the best coffee I've ever tried, shop n save in Mooresville brews this brand daily and i fell in love with the "Kahlua & Creme" flavor. I've literally never had coffee soooo good! Bought a few bags of it yesterday from shop n save but didn't realize they were based right here in Mooresville! 🙂 Will be going straight to the source next time! Love to support local businesses! ❤️
Hands down, the BEST coffee! I started drinking their coffee when I lived in Mooresville. Now that I live in Texas, I still order their coffee. I've tried a lot of different high end coffees from all over, and although some are very close, Black Powder still beats them all! Highly highly recommend the Ethiopia Reserve and the Mexican Chiapas
I love this coffee! I prefer dark roasts and One Eyed Jack and the Italian Blend are exquisite. Kenya is a great one as well. I may not be an experienced coffee aficionado but I do enjoy grinding beans and tasting fresh coffee. I've tried a lot of local stuff and I have never once had a bitter batch or experienced off flavors in the 6lbs I've gone through to date. Priced great for craft coffee. They have flavored beans, sample packs, cold brew, and even have tea and recently some apple cider. Friendly staff, subscription program and will even do a tasting and tour! Definitely worth the trip!
We’ve been buying coffee beans from Black Powder for years. When we moved away from the area we did a subscription so we could continue to enjoy the great fresh roasted coffee beans. Excellent array of flavor profiles and they sell their beans in 1 lb. bags instead of the 12 ounce bags you get from many other roasters. A great value! This place is a gem for coffee lovers in North Carolina and beyond.
Update Feb 2024:
Great coffees Obsidian (amazing!), Italian is good too.
Great flavored: banana nut, pecan pie, cinnamon roll. Lovers lane is good (when in the mood).
Sweater weater we didn't really care for. Though it is ok but lasting a long time at our house. We have had other flavors from here than above for my Feb 24 update but these are the standouts.
Update: Late April 2023...Ive been back a few times. I've had at least 4-5 coffees from here and picked up two more bags and a sampler of another flavor. Their coffee is Great...give it a try! I'm sure it'll be a hit!
I haven't tried the coffee yet but sounds good. The lady here was nice and helped with suggestions and what is popular. Price is about what Good coffee goes for in 2023 so...ya know....wish it was less but. The store area is small but has some gear and many coffee flavors. I didn't check out the tea though I believe they have some.
Note, not opened on Mon I tried to swing by last Mon. That's on me though. Stop in and pickup a coffee to try. I will try to update my review with the two coffees I bought, after I try em.

Edit up to 5-Star) Every time I go there they are friendly and the coffee is always too good. I have been there several times now and got to go in back and see how they do their magic with the coffee beans. The owner and all there are easy to talk to and happy to explain their craft. Great place, great staff and great coffee!
(Original Review) Store front was smaller than I expected but the coffee is good and it smells GREAT in there. Didn't get to go in and take a tour or see the roasting, which I had heard you can do. Would have liked that but apparently the guy was busy. Maybe next time.
Otherwise the girl at the counter was nice and I got a sample cup while I was there.
*****The coffee itself is 5-star Joe!*****
Added edit: Also they sell Keurig reusable pods that are supposed to be compatible with Keurig 2.0. I specifically asked if it was compatible with 2.0 machine and was told it was. However it is not - you have to hack it to bypass the Keurig 2.0 license-lockout feature. I was able to make it work by using the old "cut the top off a licensed K-cup" hack, and when that was done the reusable pod makes a great silt-free cup of coffee and is very easy to clean.
