I had beef in black bean sauce and it was delicious! Tasted reasonably authentic to me, but less chilli as the Norwegians tend not to like chilli. Fast service, reasonable prices (360 kr for 2 mains), hot and tasty food, very nice view of the river, charming decor and friendly staff, vegetables nice and crispy. Chicken Kung Pao was also very nice. My only reserve is that it was possibly a bit too salty.
We found the resturant using google. Local reviews seemed good with it's 4.x+ in score so since we are newly moved in, and havent had a chance to check out the local places yet we decided on this place.
We messaged them through their facebook page to ask if they require reservations. Their norwegian knowledge was fine in writing but they assumed we wanted to book a table even though we were just checking. After repeating my question they told us if we were only 2 people, they could probably accomodate us without reservation.
Me and my wife decided to just go there during their busy hours - 7pm on a Sunday.
Parking: Not many parking slots, but it was just a 1min walk away from the resturant so very close by. If the resturant is fully booked then there are probably no avail parking nearby.
The inside of the resturant is really nice and cosy with low volume late 80's popular hits on the speakers. Low enough for us to not notice it after a while.
When we arrived we had to walk almost into the resturant to get noticed, so the staff could have someone receiving guests for seating. But we easily got a seat despite the resturant being almost packed.
We got the menus immediately but I think it might have been 10 minutes before they came to take our orders. I was starting to wonder if i had to order by the counter.
Cleaning is efficent, but they could have taken our orders before clearing other tables. It would make for a better customer experience.
The menus really could be correction read before having been made. It is quite important to make at least the menu in fluent norwegian. The one we got did not have an english description, only norwegian with quite a few spelling and grammar mistakes.
My wife decided for the chicken soup for starter and me the peking soup.
The chicken soup (light colour on picture) was mild in taste, a bit too mild for my taste. The peking soup was quite spicy but managed to hold itself of not being too spicey. Both soups were served scolding hot so that was good. And it was a very big portion. Think we spent almost 15-20 minutes finishing them and we felt kind of full from them. As a starter the portion was a bit much but i think they portioned after the size of the bowl. 😂
They checked up on how well we liked the meals AFTER we had finished each meal. Good customer service would be to check once mid meal if we were satisfied. But they did check.
For main dish we both went for steak.
My wife went for Peppersteak with baked potato, and I went for Entrecote with baked potato.
We received raw veggies which could have been semi boiled. The minicorn was canned and could have been fresh.
I ordered mine well done and my wife medium. Both of us were happy when it arrived right after we finished our starters.
Often steaks come cooled down but we have no complaints about the warmth of the food.
The taste was about a 3.5 out of 5. Good but we did not oohh-aahhh. But it was a bit over average so we were satisfied.
All in all we were surprised they did not accept tip.
We enjoyed our stay enough to want to come back, and will definately grant this establishment a 4/5 score.
