The Black Forest cake I ordered was nowhere like the authentic black Forest cake. Unfortunately, it didn't have the cherries but instead just some cherry preserve or jam. I ordered it for a special occasion having waited one whole year before I could order this cake and was looking forward to it. Looks like Germany is the best place to have a slice of the Black Forest cake because it's been impossible to find them by the slice here and this cake was quite disappointing. Too much hassle just to get a slice of my fav dessert.
The other bakery item I picked up from this bakery was very delicious though.

When I lived in Norway I would visit my papa in Germany all the time and he would have pastries waiting for me. I was brought back to that simple time in my life, with every bite. A must stop! dankjewel!
So 10 days in advance we placed an order for two large cakes for a party. Well it was a struggle considering the person on the other end of the phone barely spoke English. We arrive to pick up our cakes….no cakes. Nothing. Zip. Huge disaster. The person manning the Watertown location could barely hide her smirk. Just shrugged her shoulders. She did offer to make a couple of cakes but it would take an hour. We said great can you deliver them (as we had to be at the venue in 30 mins). When we said where (25 min drive tops) she said “nah we don’t deliver there”. You’d think as it was their f up they’d maybe be willing to drive an extra mile. I’ve sent this place so much business over the years so the lack of professionalism and smirky attitude just stung. Luckily Paris Baguette came to the rescue. If you order from here make sure you have a back up plan.
Excellent pastries, so yummy. However:
- a real Danish bakery would normally have non-sweet items as well, particularly "rundstykker". Many bakeries also have a little cooler with cheese, jam, butter, so that you can buy everything you need for breakfast there (without making your breakfast all pastry). It would be nice if the Danish Pastry House could offer rundstykker at a minimum.
- not a single thing in the store is vegan or even just dairy free. I would buy a lot more if I could bring it home and share it with my family members that don't eat dairy and/or eggs. Not even the rye bread is dairy free, which i don't understand; no recipe I've ever followed used dairy in rye bread.
Google asked me to update my review, so why not: it would be nice if they played Danish music (even English language music by Danish artists, of which there is plenty) instead of Spanish language music. I get that the employees just put on whatever they want to listen to, but Danish music would add to the authenticity of the place.
I found this around the back of this business park. It's small inside so plan on carryout. A good assortment of very tasty pastries, muffins and cookies were still available when I picked up the cake I ordered. The cake was outstanding and the muffins good.
