Note: After the events I described below transpired and I left this review, the restaurant got in touch with me and they sent me a voucher to use in one of their restaurants after I described what happened to them. The food was good, everything was very tasty and the waitress tending our table was very friendly. However, the only reason we went in this place was because we saw the specially priced menu they had (I think it was available from Sunday until Wednesday or something) which included steak and fries, and was 15 euros. Even though I specifically said to the waitress that we wanted to order that special menu, we learned when paying the bill that they brought us another steak meal from their menu and not the one we asked for. They refused to give us a refund because "we had already eaten it", but I don't exactly get how we were supposed to know that what we were eating wasn't what we ordered? I don't believe the price difference was really big that giving us our deserved refund would affect a place that has such high ratings and has been around since 1975, but I definitely won't visit this place again. Amazing authentic dutch café/restaurant. From good coffees to classic dishes, well excecuted and served with a smile. My personal favourites are their meatballs, dutch pancakes, home made soups and ofcourse the steak with gravy and white bread. Best authentic Dutch place in Leiden! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Service was great. Even with our group of 15 people suddenly arriving without a reservation in the waiting staff were quick and helpful. We loved sitting outside (with it's view of the windmill) and definitely try the apple pie, it was incredible. I was advised this cafe as the most delicious apple pie. Yes, yes, yes, he's great. Very tasty pie filling and incredibly tasty crispy cake. Incredibly delicious. Cool cocktails. If I'm in Leiden, I'll definitely visit this wonderful cafe again. Service Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

A nice cafe to sit by the canal. Loved their cheesecake, but very sweet caramel sauce. Limoncello Spritz good but keep out the soda and it will be even better. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Great place for a drink or two. Lots of seats outside, which is amazing during the summer. Nice staff as well. We asked a waitress for recommendations and she recommended one of their G&T’s. Quaint restaurant in a gorgeous setting with a big terrace. The food was only ok. I had the turkey club sandwich and the toast was HARD and very rough and made the whole experience very unpleasant. I recommend this place for a quick stop or a coffee on the terrace in the sun enjoying the scenery.

Lovely and lively! Great corner spot on the canal with lots of people-watching as travelers head to and from the nearby train station. Their rose cider was delicious, as was the mighty goat cheese salad. Service was alright. Prices were a bit high, but you pay for the location. And to top it all off, there's a windmill in view just down the road.
