Country atmosphere. Front of restaurant was very busy with many people loitering in the cramped entryway. Service was very, very slow. Waited on a simple check for over 30 minutes after dinner and needing to leave. Other guests were served while we waited and waited more. Faster service, better organization would probably free up table space to alleviate the long wait times guests experience all around. Not so great experience. It was a decadent experience eating here: delicious pie and a great hamburger with unexpectedly great French fries. The staff here are very friendly, happy and receptive. It is well worth the drive from San Diego just to eat here. Thank you Julian Cafe and Bakery for a superior restaurant experience! First time at Julian so we had to try this place. We got there at 9:45 am and there was a 45 minute wait. We walked around town. Things didn't open till about 10:30 am. We got seated and everyone was super friendly. I got cherry iced tea and it was very refreshing. We ordered the power bowl and French toast. It took a minute for the food but when it arrived you can tell it was fresh off the pan. The portions are big so you won't leave with an empty stomach. The wait staff was very attentive. My wife for the chicken pot pie turnover and I got the chicken fried beef steak. Both were delicious. Fries were excellent. Gravy was slightly cool and I should have asked for extra. Carmel apple hot cider was excellent! Chicken fried steak was way bigger that I imagined. Tea was great! Apple pie to go will be ate later tonight!.....update.... Apple pie was not good. Crust can make or break a pie. Crust was not flaky and had no saltiness. Filling bland, not much cinnamon. Frozen pies in the grocery store are better. When we are in Julian, this is the place we go for breakfast. It has a very rustic charm and feel to the entire restaurant. Only draw back is that the seating is very limited and the wait is on average 40 - 45 min. However, on busy days, the wait can be even more. I suggest going early to avoid the longer wait times. Also, all of the portions are big and so sharing a plate might be a great idea. I took a day trip up to Julian Mr. Just to come to this cafe. I have eaten here a few times but this time I was very, very disappointed. I ordered the 3 piece fried chicken meal with mash potatoes & gravey. The chicken tastes like it was fried in old oil and over cook!!!! This was not the tasted I remember over a year ago.
