Major Tom was recommended to me by a friend, so I decided to make a reservation to celebrate my friends birthday. From start to finish we were so impressed by our experience and had a great time. The hosts were very friendly and professional, and we even had a birthday card waiting at our table for my friend.
Our server was amazing - he provided great recommendations and was very attentive to us despite it being a busy night. The atmosphere is one you don't want to miss. It's a large restaurant but still feels cozy and intimate. It offers an amazing view of the city.
The drinks we ordered were amazing, and we were thoroughly impressed by the food. My personal favourite was the potato donut appetizer and the spiced carrot cake dessert. I had a dirty martini which came with blue cheese stuffed olives and it was outstanding.
If you live in Calgary and want to try something new and exciting, or if you are visiting the city and want to have great drinks with a view, there is no better place than Major Tom.

It is stunning restaurant with nice view!
The we had those Valentine’s special. If I remember correctly, it was about 175 dollars with steak with king crabs and two sides. Honestly with this price, their portions were small but it was good taste.
We also had shrimp and crab appetizer which was amazing!

Some people come here to be seen which I find particularly lame. But I come for the experience of the 40th floor and chic mid century interior and the pleasing food. They are busy here so I can appreciate the slight lag in service at times, but all in all very good! I bring out of town guests here and it's always a good time.

I celebrated my birthday at Major Tom, where they greeted us with a thoughtful card upon arrival. Situated on the 40th floor, the restaurant offers a stunning city view. The staff was not only friendly but also helpful. The food, particularly the steak, was delightful—juicy and delicious. We also tried the crispy half chicken, paired with pasta, which was scrumptious, although the pasta was a tad oily. The bar impressed with a variety of cocktails, and a notable highlight was their selection of beers on tap from a local brewery. Major Tom is an excellent choice for special occasions, providing a memorable night for you and your loved ones.

We visited March 2023 with friends for a night out on home leave.
Perhaps I had high expectations given the difficulty of getting a reservation. But what I was presented with didn’t quite match the hype. If I was being mean I’d called it a upscale Ikea cafeteria with the promise of views, if you’re lucky enough to get seated near a window.
It has a very cool vibe but is far too open to dissipate the dining hall feeling. I can imagine it as a beautiful 1970s airport executive lounge. The furnishings are beautiful mid century pieces that are warm and inviting. I think I was expecting more of an “every seat in the house is an unmissable experience” but the views were few seated in the back most row from the windows.
The food was good, not exceptional. It was presented in a manner befitting the cost. I liked the small plates for sharing. We did not get dessert.
Mostly, my review has to do with the service. I was expecting top notch, reputation worthy. But it was middle of the road, the waiter even made derisive comments about the cocktails.
Overall I would suggest other high end Calgary restaurants before Major Tom but while I wouldn’t tell people not to go, I’m doubtful I’d go back. Perhaps if I was still a Calgary native I’d give it a second shot.
I bet it would be a great brunch spot if they nailed the food.

Make sure you reserve a table well in advance. We had an excellent evening here. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. The views are probably the best in the city. The staff were very knowledgeable and top of it. I would definitely come back. I don't believe we had a single bad dish. They also have an excellent cocktails menu. And make sure you end the night with the baked Alaska.
