Waited some time for a table due to limited wait staff. Service was friendly. Food came up really quick, late lunch so not many customers. Pastrami and corned beef ruebens were quite good. The cup of Haddock chowder was good. Home made onion rings were good. Facilities were clean. Amazing selection of pies. Read so many reviews about how great the food is and the pies. We sat at the bar. Best part of this place is the photos on the walls, the nostalgia of the place and coffee mugs.. Outside of that, the staff is snippy to each other, they are put out if you ask for more water or to see a dessert menu. The vibe was awful. The food was okay. The biscuits were good. All the pies 🥧 looked amazing. I asked for a slice of blueberry heated. The pie was cold just like the staff. Will be in South Thomaston in October and can’t wait for a return to Moody’s and a piece of blueberry pie!😋 Update: Well, we flew in yesterday and had dinner at Moody’s on our way to our rental. It was Saturday night and we had a bit of a wait but it was worth it! Our waitress, Brenda, gave me a bit of a stink eye when I took her photo coming out of the kitchen carrying orders but she was the complete package as our server. Professional, competent and friendly even though she was busting it on a busy Saturday night with customers filling up the waiting area. The rolls were amazing, the sweet potato fries delicious and my haddock chowder loaded with haddock. Moody’s has become a family tradition for us. Anytime we are driving up north and pass Waldoboro, a pit stop at Moody’s is a must. This place is truly a gem with so much history. How lucky are we to have Moody’s be part of our state. We first dined at Moody’s two years ago and just fell in love with it. We love diners, and Moody’s is the epitome of a perfect one: no frills, extensive menu, cheap prices, yummy food that makes you feel good, great coffee, and that ambiance that’s so unique to diners in New England. They have plenty of parking and plenty of space inside, so even on their packed days we haven’t had to wait more than 5 mins to get a booth or table. We love all of the seating options — booths, tables, and bars are available. The menu is quite extensive. We’ve enjoyed their breakfasts and sandwiches, as well as their pies and biscuits (they’re to die for!). The chicken parm sub, the Bertha burger, and the Reuben’s are some of our favorite items from their menu. We are grateful for places like Moody’s Diner. Thank you for being open for all these years! We had a terrific time at this iconic restaurant, both coming to and leaving Maine (lunch first visit, breakfast second). We had some great chowder for lunch. They make their desserts and pastries--the doughnuts we had with breakfast were awesome. We took some cheesecake to go after our lunch, and it was a very welcome treat later that evening. First time visit great late lunch of fish and chips (upgraded to excellent onion rings) and fish chowder full of fish chunks, not too thick as most are. Too full for dessert but took a slice of blueberry pie for later (grateful to have with a cup of tea in our room.). We wandered back and stayed in that night in a classic 1920’s Moodys Motel cabin Clean , comfortable, with a hot shower and tons of charm and because we had to try the Diner for breakfast. My family and I stayed at the Moody’s Cabins (which, if you do not know, is located right up the hill above where the Moody’s Diner is) and every day we were there, we visited the diner for breakfast and dinner. Since we were already staying at the cabins, we were given a discount for our orders at the diner. Great food, and it has a comfortable, homey feeling. Kind of feels nostalgic and old-timey. Very efficient service, and the waitresses are always working so hard and hustling from one table to the next. The prices are very reasonable and perfect for a big family order. We stopped for lunch. A cup of haddock chowder, warm biscuits with butter, and a slice of pie. It's always so delicious. All of the pies are homemade. I usually get the Lemon Meringue (photo below). The staff are all very friendly and helpful. They have been a family business since 1927. There is a gift shop outside the diner with lots of great items to purchase. There is also an ice cream stand not far from the hotel and cabins just behind the diner. The counters are worn where so many customers have leaned on them over the years. A great family diner. We love eating at Moody's. Some staff recently just seems lethargic and doesn't live up to the whole Moodys brand (especially at the front register). There is ice cream, gift shop but most importantly amazing, delicious made fresh food. No matter how packed the parking lot is, we never have to wait long to be seated and our food arrives very quickly. Must visit diner in Maine.
