I order from here all the time. It is really good authentic Indian food. Plenty of menu options. indoor & outdoor seating, though indoor is limited. Plenty of parking. Family staff is very nice and welcoming; however, don't trust the younger daughters on spice level, they're immune to spice and will incorrectly judge your feeble spice tolerance, lol. Just kidding they're great but I was serious about your lack of spice tolerance, lol. No matter my shrimp vindaloo last time was still amazing. I would say definitely go here or order take out.
Update: unfortunately Mother India has closed. However, there is another Indian restaurant that took the same location. So, if you're in Midtown/Leavenworth area stop by and try it out.
I was pretty disappointed with this restaurant after hearing so many good things.
I love Indian food. One of my best friends owns a restaurant in my home city that's been in Anne Hardy's where to eat list. That's where my bar is. Back home I also have been to other Indian restaurants and this one just didn't compare.
Maybe we ordered the wrong things but almost every dish I had an issue with.
I will say their cheese naan was very good! I always try to find the positive in a restaurant...
The shrimp you only get 4 pieces for $13.99, but they are large. If you're hungry though, that is not the way to go. There is nothing in the dish except for fish and there's no indication of you can get refills on rice. I did the shrimp korma.
Also did the lamb mole. This was probably my favorite dish. The lamb meat was very tender. The sauce was acceptable.
The vindaloo had an overly tomato sauce taste to it.
The thing that was similar to the butter chicken was heavy on the coriander.
The samosas didn't have as much flavor as I'm used to and tasted a bit bland.
Their vegetable korma tasted fine my GF told me (her dish) but the next day she was sick.
The food taste was about a 3 star but coupled with the service, that's why I gave it a 2. We had a server that obviously did not want to be working there. When asked for her opinion on the food she said she didn't eat there. When I had questions about the menu she never had an answer but wouldn't really try to find out unless I pushed. It was frustrating. She wasn't mean, she just acted as if she really would have rather been somewhere else.
This is a restaurant that I really have no interest in returning to because of this.
(I updated my review, one year later. Pretty good. Clumsiness has gone so it seems. Had a very nice dinner.)
Pretty good food. Nice place which could & should be better. Service is clumsy, almost nothing comes as a whole - first bread, curry 5 mins later, then someone thinks 'o yes there should be cutlery, too'. Seems not to bother them.
Food is OK. Close to Indian, really nice. I asked for more spicey which seems relevant. But it was very OK. The breads were great.
No alcohol (get it 50m further at the gas station). Not inexpensive. Nice terrace. Friendly - clumsy - staff.
I enjoyed it.
Uber disappointed.
With all the great reviews I was hoping this place would be a great experience. But their quality had changed drastically. We got the Vegetable Jalafrazie and it tasted like Campbell tomato soup with vegetables. Very disappointed. For the price it was too much, very boring and unflavorful.
Many reviews states there’s a vegan menu, or vegan options but they told us there are only four options for us, which was pretty disappointing because google says they have multiple options and Indian food has a lot of vegetable dishes. The “Mother India dal, Vegetable Jalafrazie, Vegetable curry, Vegetable molee (not on the menu)” were their only options.
My brother got the Vegetable molee for $10.50 and said he liked it.
I’ve always driven past this joint and been curious about what they had to offer. Tonight I had the vegetable curry, and garlic naan, and I cleared my plate. It was hot, fresh, and delicious. I would definitely order this dish again. The spot only had 6 tables and they stayed steady the whole time, and now I know why. I will definitely return again to try one of their many vegetarian dishes. A+
Best Indian food I have ever had hands down!!! I travel and sing and I have tried it all over, I have had close to as good on some things, but as a whole EVERY SINGLE dish I try here is mouth watering and even addictive! If you want to impress your friends, send them/take hen here! I dream about Mother India. Best Indian food in Omaha by a mile!!! Love love love!
I love Indian spices! Everyone thinks Indian food is spicy but it's not. Some dishes have a bit of a kick but mother India puts them together very well. The lamb is always tender and flavorful and the saffron rice is excellent. This is a must eat restaurant.
Love this little gem of an Indian restaurant! Living across the street is a blessing and a curse because the smells inundate me each time I walk out the door! I’ve never had anything bad from here-curries, vindaloos, naan-and I usually like to order my entrees spicy. So, so good.
Indian is one of my favorite cuisines and I've eaten at nearly every Indian restaurant in Omaha. Mother India is just okay, nothing more. I don't care about ambiance, so the small setting didn't bother me. The food isn't all that great, just average. The last time I ate in the restaurant I ordered a chicken dish (can't remember which) and while the spices and flavors were good, the chicken was very tough and rubbery. It was possibly overcooked or was previously frozen. The samosas were extremely greasy and seemed to be overcooked as well. Overall, I was very disappointed in my meal and experience. The service was just adequate and it was obvious they wanted to clear our table to make room for the next diners, since the place is so small. This wouldn't have been a big deal if the meal was up to par, but it simply wasn't. I've ordered take out and again it was just okay, nothing deserving of the rave reviews I've read.
