I am gluten, dairy and soy free due to intolerances. I don't have a true allergy or celiac. The website mentions a gluten free bun. I ordered the burger without cheese, sauce and with the GF bun. Theirb regular bun usually comes buttered. They said all fries would have cross contamination so I didn't get any, they offered to put the burger in a special spot on the grill, away from the cheese, but I said that wasn't necessary. The website didn't have a spot for notes, so I had to call to speak to someone to get the additional information. I had no reaction from the burger!! But, the burger was okay. I think if I'd gotten their regular cheese burger with the regular bun, it would have been better. The GF bun was okay. The atmosphere is great, the freestyle machine is appreciated and the live music was extraordinary. The only substandard part of NN burgers are the burgers and the chips. First of all the chips where dry, a bit soggy from the frying and no salt or seasoning with less flavor than a bag of kettle chips. Now the burger, the bun was pillow soft and the size was good, but they cooked it so hard into a flavorless disc. To be fair , I didn’t specify medium, but who would cook gourmet meat to a XXX well done state. I am so disappointed after the hype. Saying this is the best burger in Virginia is a stretch by a long way. Burger was overcooked to the point that it was dry, had little flavor, and was very, very expensive (my photo shows a $14 burger). Location was not bad. Service was OK, they say they had local craft beers but really didn't, at least not on tap. Playing some hand washing song in the restroom got old quick. They actually had live music, though he managed to play "Fast Car" twice in the same set. Don't know that this place was worth the expense. Third visit here since they opened. Wasn't impressed with the burgers that much but when they advertised the lobster rolls I knew I had to give them a try. The lobster rolls were excellent and were about 20$ . The atmosphere, service, and most of all, the food was impeccable. There are reviews stating that NN is pricey. But, you must acknowledge the value in what you receive when you go there to eat. They support local musician by providing live music. They greet you with smiles and hand craft your order. I am a lobster roll snob. I could not find a lobster roll close to where I live, and then, a Google search led me to NN Burger, and it surpassed its reputation. I strongly recommend a lunch outing to this place. I forgot to mention, their Black Bean Burger is super delish (trusted foodie source). If you are over 21 years of age, order the Rum Punch. Stopped in on the way back from a camping execution at close by state park and had the “NN Classic Cheeseburger” w/bacon (Creamy NN sauce mild cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato & red onion) “NN Chophouse Tuffle Burger” (Angus Beef, house-made bacon jam, aged Swiss, Sautéed mushroom, roasted garlic truffle aioli) w/bacon, and the “The Baked” (Smokehouse Bacon, aged white cheddar sauce, sour cream). The burgers were spot on, but they didn’t ask us how we wanted them cooked and our bacon (extra) was forgotten!? The cheese on “The Baked” was ice cold? Not sure if that is/was the norm, but cold cheese on what was suppose to be warm potatoes???? Choose to eat in and the tables were limited due to the cold and rain. So initially we had to sit a community table with strangers because all the interior tables were taken, but luckily a normal table opened up. Note to the owners: a couple of your tables were being taken up by people waiting to get their take out verses the people who were dinning in??? Maybe have a couple of chairs set aside for take out customers?? So a bunch of us were standing around waiting for a table to open up. The only interaction we had with staff was at the register and she was very nice, but no one seemed to care that 10-15 of us were standing around awkwardly looking around for a seat? Burgers were still good though, if you are passing through, it’s worth the stop!!
