The Budds

This was a second visit to The Picknickers and yet again they starred. The Maitre 'D greeted us remembering our names, We had booked earlier in the day and were offered a choice of where to sit, this visit we brought along friends who brought their 2 large Greyhounds with them, and this was no problem. Again the service was excellent and the food outstanding. Our friends ate off the standard menu but my wife and I had one of each of the specials. Yet gain the food was excellent. We all had an excellent evening. WELL DONE PICKNICKERS. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €90–100

Great food and drinks menu offering something different to the usual Dutch classics. Staff were friendly and professional. And the location right next to the bridge and waterways was great… perfect summer vibes! Meal type Lunch Price per person €20–30

I found myself amidst a cackle of women on one of the terraces of Picknickers the other day. The joint exudes a hipster-like target audience which is funny because real hipsters don't wander more than 20 miles from Amsterdam. Picknickers is situated along the Frisian lake waterfront but the view from the terrace is limited to reeds and a boat ramp. The ramp has plenty of comedic value as couples often fail to gracefully launch their boats - to the delight of most of the onlookers. I will not elaborate and dignify the gastronomic experience with an erudite in-depth paragraph. 'Meh' fits the bill.

Nice little restaurant. They seem to be suffering from the employee shortage, with a lot of new inexperienced hires. We had the lobster, which was tasty but a bit restricted, with just some fries and a little piece of bread. Overall, nice restaurant with good food, but some points to improve on.

One of our favorite spots. The location is splendid, close to the Heerensyl bridge, so Hafen-kino ('harbour slapstick') is guaranteed. My favorite poison: gin-tonic with Henrick's gin, cucumber, dille, pepper corn and a few little flowers if you are lucky, served with st. Pellegrino Tonic water. They also stock fresh oysters!! (if the season is right). Finally try their burgers... world class !!
