Tried this place for the first time and it was delicious. The only thing we were not a fan of was the fish and chips, the breading was to thick and not fully cooked in a few places but everything else was great. Stunning views and delicious food! I ate here once for a celebratory lunch and really have enjoyed my time there. We had a reservation in advance and there was no wait for us, and we got lucky to have a corner window table overlooking Golden Gate Bridge. Everything went great after that: the waitress was very nice, the food came out pretty quickly, the drinks were good, and we all had a great time! This restaurant highlights the worst properties of American (fine) food: everything is so sweet and powerful. Only the clam chowder was worth it (even great, although atypical), we weren't able to finish anything else, not because of the quantity (generous), but of the taste. Products were also meh. The good parts: cocktails were great, large choice of wines, great service, and the views are obviously terrific if you are on the good side (bar). Skates on the bay is amazing! We were greeted by friendly staff and were given a table right away. With a variety of options we felt like there was so much to choose from. That being said, we asked our server (David) for suggestions. He provided excellent suggestions which all ended up being great picks. Our server made sure to check in on our table from time to time to make sure everything was going well. I can say with 100% certainty that with the everything from the superb service and atmosphere I will keep coming back to Skates on the bay. I ate here twice while on vacation. They have an interesting cocktail menu. The fish and chips were good and I had the key lime pie twice. I also thought the happy hour was a really good deal. The atmosphere is nice and every seat offers a lovely view of the water. You might want to bring sunglasses if you want to keep the sun out of your eyes nearest the west facing windows.
