The ambiance is wonderfully nostalgic, reminiscent of classic San Francisco. It’s the kind of place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to soak in the rich, bohemian atmosphere that’s become increasingly rare in modern-day bars.
The drinks at Specs’ are as exceptional as its ambiance. Whether you’re a fan of classic cocktails or prefer to try something new and adventurous, the bartenders here mix drinks with an expertise that’s clearly born from a passion for their craft.
But what truly sets Specs’ apart is its sense of community. It’s a melting pot of artists, writers, locals, and tourists, all coming together to share stories and laughs. The staff are not just friendly, they make you feel like a part of the Specs’ family.
In a city that’s constantly evolving, Specs’ Bar stands out as a bastion of authenticity and timeless charm. It’s more than just a bar; it’s a San Francisco institution that embodies the soul of the city. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, a visit to Specs’ is an unforgettable experience.

Welcome to the “old San Francisco”, a place that represents how San Francisco used to be. Unique, a little worn, with its own character, a bit corky AND !!! Where the bartender knows the regulars by name and where the bartender gives regulars preferred treatment. That means you might have to wait a bit longer to get served- as the bartender asks the regulars if they want a refill- without them having to ask. The crowd is eclectic to eccentric. Young and old. Specs is ALWAYS good for a surprise- and also still a place people go to talk to strangers instead of making love to their cell phones. One of my favorites: the bar snack. A nice chunk of cheese cut from a wheel.
Small, intimate-chill dive bar. Its drink prices are low and definitely not in character with the area. North beach can be expensive and this little dive bar keeps drinks simple and cheap.

Very cool and interesting pieces. You can spend a lot of time observing all the momentos on the walls. The “museum” part in the name does not lie. Cool to check out, more mature crowd in the bar.
Divey historic beat bar. Understaffed but great vibe with interesting scenery and friendly folks. Took a while to get served but the bartender was doing all she could under the circumstances.

SF style charming Divebar with fisherman's motif. If you are staying in this area accessible to checkout. There is no need to take an extra ride trip to visit. There are plenty of other bars around.

An SF institution and one of the last of its kind. Spec’ is a timeless, charming bar. You can come here and have a chat, enjoy the preserved wall work, or enjoy a simple drink or pint in peace.
An unusual gem. Fascinating interior, uncomplicated, cozy atmosphere, good music which is never too loud - a place converse over a drink without having to shout at each other. Plus there are always some interesting characters around, people drawing, playing chess… highly recommended.
If you know the history of the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco and want to experience the essence of what North Beach should be all about, Specs is one of the bars to go to. It is a place without pretentiousness and the drinks are more reasonably priced than the high-end bars that have opened in the neighborhood.
