Went there today to buy some coffee, and was not disappointed. I purchased two types of coffee they have, Colombian San Francisco, a dark roast, and Costa Rican Tarrazu.
Just made myself a cup of coffee using the Colombian San Francisco, and it was phenomenal. The cup I made tasted exactly like the label described, word for word.
The staff at the company are extremely helpful, and will work with you to find the coffee of your choosing. All prices for the coffee are fair and not overpriced at all, but if you feel like it might be, I recommend to take a chance and spend a little more, because a cup of coffee from this company will change how you view coffee.
They have completely remodeled the place. It's beautiful, and they are adding a cafe! As it is, they have a tremendous supply of coffee and tea and a beautiful wine room. I love the place!

Really excellent coffee. Compares favorably to all the more expensive brands. Their coffee is smooth and never bitter no matter how strong a blend you buy. Yes, the prices have gone up - but so has everything. And they are still cheaper than most of the "gourmet" coffees. I agree that their customer service isn't always the best in the store, but you are basically in their FACTORY, WAREHOUSE - not in a coffee bar or at a cafe. So give them a break! They don't get a lot of walk-in business there, so I feel it is unreasonable to expect them to have a large selection available "to taste". (Maybe now with K-cups, they can work on that)
The Reading Coffee Company's flavored coffees are so smooth and taste amazing. My husband and I have tried several flavors so far, and they've all been great and unique. Our all-time favorite is their Jazzy Java flavor. I order through their website and never have any shipping issues. We're lifetime customers!
The coffee was very good and not a bad price at all for a full pound! I do agree with many other reviewers however: The person working in the shop needs therapy or an antidepressant! She was one of the most unpleasant people I've encountered in a long time! Quit your job if you're that miserable! I'll probably order online from now on to avoid that awful vibe in my life!
The product itself deserves four stars - locally roasted coffee is hard to come by and Reading Coffee Roasters offers just that. However, the customer service falls closer to two stars. It's hard to choose a good coffee for your taste when the staff refuses to help you by simply telling you what the general profile of the different coffees are.
It started a few months ago when I went in for the first time to check it out. The staff member working was unpleasant, very short when answering questions, and showed little interest in talking about the coffees they sell. I shook it off as a rough day, bought a pound of coffee and went on my way.
I just stopped in today hoping for a better experience, but had no such luck. The same staff member was clearly disgruntled to see a customer. When I asked what the difference in flavor was between two coffees they sold, she quickly snapped back that one of the coffees was out of stock so she couldn't tell me anyway. When I asked about another coffee clearly listed on their daily menu, she said it was out of stock and they only had what was on the menu... where I found it. Eventually she looked across the room and found it in stock.
Overall, if you can get past the lack of customer service or catch them on a better day, the coffee itself tastes good. Part of experiencing good coffee, though, is knowing the background and profile of the roast. If you want to know those things and learn about the coffee, go elsewhere.
They have a very nice selection of coffee available. Typical blends to some I interesting flavors. Prices are very reasonable for freshly roasted coffee. It would be nice to see coffee being served there. While it may not be he owners objective, it's a thought.
I love it here. I have been coming to this establishment since I was a kid and going to the location on N. 9th St. Their coffee is always good and now they have a bunch of different products, like ice tea pitchers, coffee grinders, kettles, mugs, and other coffee and hot chocolate. Other stuff too I didn't mention. Big plus: it smells amazing when you walk in there.
