We went to Capital Ale House last night for our friends retirement dinner. My boyfriend and I had the perogies, french dip, beet salad, and the caprese chicken. The perogies were good but the presentation definitely is different from what I remember from previous visits. The French dip was AMAZING and something I would absolutely order again. The chicken was very tasty but the polenta cake was flavorless and cold. He loved his beet salad with the walnut vinaigrette. It was bright and earthy. Since there were a lot of people I was able to see a few of their other menu items. The mussels were fresh and delicious. The club sandwhich looked AWESOME and it was huge!! It made me want to order one to go 🤣. The loaded fries were sent back because they were soggy and just didn’t taste very good. They traded them in for plain wings and devoured them very quickly… so I’m assuming they were delicious. Also Brian the bartender was awesome! Everything was fantastic. The service was great and the food equal. The chicken sandwich was the best one we have ever had. Biting into the fried chicken sandwich was an experience. The crunch was so crispy, it could almost be described as flakey, and had the subtle touch of sweetness that every fried chicken sandwich should have. If the sandwich was cooked so well, you can only imagine the fries. My only complaint was the chicken on the salad. It was described as grilled, but had no signs of being grilled. It seemed to be baked a bit too long (I mean look at the picture) But the lettuce and veggies were fresh. Our burger was also wonderful. Let me tell you about Capital Ale House. Great Atmosphere, Great Team, Great Beer selection from all over the the local breweries, Great food,and speacles every month, Great Late night fun with friends and family after all the other Pubs and Bars close downtown. Great place to unwind or go hang out. Meet out-of- towners that are on Vacation to share everything about Fredericksburg. When my sister comes to town we always come to Capital Ale House... she love it to. CHEERS!! Like a lot of locals I too have noticed a steep drop in service here. Twice I have gone here in the past few months and twice I have been seated and … that is about it. I have a 10-min rule, which I think is quite generous. After 10-min, not being given so much as a glass of water much less taking an order, it is time to leave. It is unfortunate bc the bar staff is pretty good in my experience. I have a feeling it won’t be around in a few years, given Brock’s or Rebellion do not seem to have a service issue. Went for lunch on a Wednesday. Very good service and quick. Got the chicken pot pie app and a chicken sandwich with Hungarian potatoes and highly recommend. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
