First time dining here and will definitely be back! We sat in the Villa Nova room, even though the room was large it still felt cozy and loved the atmosphere. Our reservations were early on a Saturday so it wasn’t too busy, but by 6/6:30 they were starting to get their Saturday night dinner rush. Started the meal with the shrimp in garlic sauce appetizer. The shrimp were nice and big and cooked perfectly. The garlic sauce was so delicious we couldn’t get enough dipping the bread to soak up the excess. For dinner we ordered the Paella for two and the Steak Portuguese Style. When dinner came we were in shock, the paella could have fed a small village! There was a good amount of seafood mixed and the flavor was outstanding. The steak was just as good, it was cooked well and was a nice piece of steak. Lastly would highly recommend the sangria. We had the red, but it came in a few flavor choices, that will definitely try next time we go back. Although the food is good here. You guys have partnered up with Newark gift cards. You also have it posted at your front door. How is it that not even your employees did not know nothing about this? I showed the older gentlemen who served us, the virtual card. He said he could not except that. He needed a physical card. However, I had to explain how it works, that you had to manually put it into machine. I gave the young girl the virtual card, and she told me it gave decline. I went online to check and I had more than enough to cover the check. So I had to pay in a different matter. The older gentlemen made me feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed in this situation. I felt like it seemed like I was trying to steal, or like I was trying to take advantage. So to be very blunt, why would you offer to except this card if you don’t advise your staff? I have been here in the past and enjoyed the food but I mostly come here for take out and the food is always on point for the take out. Decided to stop by and dine in last week and didn’t like the experience to much the food was ok I have had the same dishes taste better on take out pick up or even delivery but done in wasn’t the best experience the waiters try to always come to you but something was off I will continue to order. First time at this place, lured by the reviews, and it didn't disappoint. Went on a Saturday afternoon, the ambiance was nice and relaxed, the staff was very friendly and attentive. Even the complimentary bread, butter and cheese tasted great. Once the food came, everything tasted fresh and delicious. My toddler loves salmon, and he really enjoyed the stuffed salmon. Caught up with my good friend, from college days for lunch at Sol-Mar in the Ironbound District of Newark, NJ. It was a beautiful, sunny day so we dined outdoors. The seafood paella was possibly the best I ever had. The saffron spiced rice kept me wanting more. The lobster was a real treat along with the shrimp, mussels, clams, squid and scallops. Service was excellent, and prices were fair. Ultimately, I had to take a 'doggy bag' home as the portions were huge and made a second meal. Aside from chowing down, Dave and I caught up on each other's lives, reminisced and discussed new nonprofit programs to help young adults have the same fast track opportunities we did growing up. The best Paella we had! Reasonable price with big portion and it’s delicious. The clam with Garlic & Cilantro and Shrimp Garlic Sauce are very fresh and yummy. Great, traditional Portuguese food! We had the Bacalhau à Bras and their salmon and shrimp dishes. They offer fresh cheese with their delicious bread and olives. We ended dessert with poached pear in Port wine sauce. Couldn't have had a better Portuguese dining experience! Don't change (but maybe play some Portuguese music here and there!). The decor is also beautiful and makes one feel like they are in sitting at an outdoor restaurant in Portugal. Perfect!
