Once the promenade around the Mombetsu Sister City Park is over, visit zach's bistro. This bar offers you nicely cooked halibut, crab cakes and steamed mussels. Most guests recommend trying tasty ice cream, bread pudding and chocolate custard. Zach's bistro offers good chardonnay, martinis or draft beer among its drinks. Based on the guests' opinions, waiters serve delicious press coffee, French coffee or chocolate frappe. The homely atmosphere of this place allows customers to relax after a hard working day. Zach's Bistro was a revelation. We were expecting a rather ordinary meal and received the most interesting and well-prepared meal that I have had in years. I say "interesting" in the sense that everything had something unexpected or a twist on the usual that was both wonderful and surprising. Best of all, everything was gluten free and safe for me to eat. The chestnut soup, clam chowder, fried market fish, potatoes, squash, and perfectly cooked broccolini were all terrific. Even the butter tasted more "buttery" than any we've ever had. There seemed to be an excessive use of sprouts as garnish for my taste, but I'm not a fan of sprouts in any form. The food was served at the right temperatures and the main course plates were warmed. (I appreciate that very much.) The decor is unexceptional and the ambience is a bit spare, but the music was delightful and at a nice low volume, unlike too many places. The bill was surprisingly low for the quality of food and service we received. We plan to come down to Newport more often just to enjoy Zach's Bistro. Highly recommended. We had a lovely Christmas set menu at Zach’s Bistro and would love to go back for a normal meal! As other reviewers mentioned, Zach is running the show himself so the experience is more like a gourmet meal at a friend’s place rather than a traditional restaurant—and that’s so refreshing and unique! Great cocktails and fresh, delicious, thoughtfully prepared dishes. Zach is clear and direct with his reservation system and menu, and we loved the unique offerings, like Rhode Island clam chowder and roasted chestnut soup. Zero atmosphere, and very cold. Had to go get jacket out of the car. One employee that did it all. Ribeye steak over cooked, unseasoned and full of fat. The Brussel sprouts were burnt as was some type of purée starch. Service disorganized. Brought our pre-ordered selections (required) to different tables twice. We have been here twice now and both times have been among the most memorable culinary experiences we have ever had. Both times, we opted for the 6 course chef's choice meal and both times we found ourselves exclaiming our love for each course and the paired wines. Zach provides a dining experience that is unmatched by any other location we have been to on the Oregon coast or the entirety of the state for that matter. Both times, we had to make special requests due to dietary needs and both times Zach deftly operated with these needs in mind, not skipping a beat, and providing courses you will find yourself talking and dreaming about long after the dinner is done. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The flavor combinations were unexpected and magical. I am glad I tried the chef's wine pairings. Two I never would have picked on my own that were both delicious and a perfect match for my meal. The courses with the half size options for salads and starters are a genius way to get to try more things without being overly full. Go curious and flow with the experience. My husband and I went to Zach’s for our anniversary. I chose this place based on the reviews and we were not disappointed in the least! Zach was an amazing host. It’s a one man show all the way but he was very inviting and attentive the entire time we were there. The crab cakes were amazing. The best we’d ever had anywhere. The lamb chops were so tender and flavorful. Honestly if you want fine dining but with a “dinner at my friends house” feel. Zach’s is the place to go! And he has great N/A wine and cider choices too. Amazing food, great service, one man show, but a great one!

I dont want to be the only review which is negative but I also want to be honest about my experience. I had pretty high expectations based on the other glowing reviews and it was really disappointing. When seated, we were told that they were already out of several mains. The chef is also the 'server' which makes it difficult to get his attention if you need more water or drinks and he mostly came out to deliver dishes. The room you sit in feels pretty bare-bones and not the level we were hoping for. We thought the food was alright but there weren't really any standouts or anything we'd want to have again. It felt like a waste of time and money to have driven up from our vacation in Yachats to try this place. We thought it could be improved if there were a server (even a high school kid running food and drinks), a better/more aesthetic atmosphere and if all of the options were available for diners or maybe fewer options but more delicious. That said, running a whole restaurant alone was a feat that is very ambitious and commendable.
