There are times when your food-association-by-location bearings get thrown out of kilter because someone decides to make something unexpected that people then can't get enough of. Like the time we found the BEST Pavlova (yes that famous KIWI dessert) made from scratch in a place called People's Palace, a Thai fusion restaurant in the middle of the CBD in Makati, Philippines. How??? And yet here we are again, in Lalomalava, on the big island Savaii in Samoa eating the best beef soup. So good that people come clamouring for it day in and day out. Regardless of the fact that we're in 32 degree heat. It just sells. Despite the fact that it doesn't make sense. Welcome to Adria's Cafe. An irony of sorts that works. And we tried as many as we could, from Chicken Teriyaki on rice, to Alesana's Steak, to the Cheeseburger, the Eggs Benedict, the Cinnamon Brioche, Chocolate cupcakes and of course, the Beef Soup. And we were passing around the plates tasting each other's orders (which you can do with your four children), fascinated that this was in a café, in the middle of a village, far from the bustle of Apia, and even further from the hustle of Auckland or Sydney. None of this should work. But it does. So, if you happen to find yourself in Samoa, coming off a ferry from Upolu, and you can head right. Take a 10minute trip to Lalomalava. You won't regret it.

Adrias was a welcome Oasis in our drive. We almost missed it. The Beef Udon and Teriyaki chicken were delicious.

Good coffee, delicious food and friendly service. A good place to stop and recharge on the way while travelling around Savaii.

A cute cafe in Lalomalava. I highly recommend their supo povis, custard tarts 👌🏾 and chocolate logs with fresh cream! You can never have too much of these, plus the friendly staff is always a bonus!
