Come here for a drink after a long walk around Museu Casa do Arcano. Portuguese cuisine is well-cooked at this steakhouse. Alabote offers you nicely cooked bacon, grilled octopus and grilled tuna. Do not go away without tasting good chocolate mousse, fruitcake and grilled pineapple. Take your chance to taste delicious wine, cordial or beer. Many visitors think that you can have great cortado or good cappuccino at this place. The great location of this spot makes it easy to reach even in rush hours. The staff is said to be accommodating here. Terrific service is something that people highlight in their reviews. Delicious dishes at fair prices are offered here. You will appreciate the lovely decor and comfortable ambiance of this steakhouse. 4.1 is what Alabote received from the Google rating system.

Let’s start with the bright sides first. The staff was friendly and managed our reservation well and the food order was also relatively fine. This brings me to the mostly negative experience…the menu does not contain much information about the dish you order. I have ordered a steak with regional sauce (that is the sole description) and what I got was a steak with sauce accompanied by an egg and fries + a slice of pepper that was rather salty. The same goes for the other dishes, we also tried fish which looked good from the limited menu description but tasted bad. I unfortunately cannot recommend eating this restaurant. Nice place with amazing views of the ocean and beach. Clean and nice dining room. The food was mostly excellent. The issue is how it was hard for the serving staff to keep up. They really were doing their best but the restaurant is large and the staff needs more of a system to make it manageable. Also for the food. Very tasty but my advice is get the tenderloin cuts of steak. The sirloin cuts were hard to cut and chew. :(. Still really delicious just tough. Or just go all in on seafood. On the one hand the „braced tuna with green souce“ was fantastic (five stars). But not recommendable is the expensive „Re-Stuffed Crab“ (Sapateira Recheada) - I would rate with one start. The Crab was full of mayonnaise and oil, but the typical scallop was really rare. We know it from Lisbon where it was much better! The view from the restaurant and terrace is nice. Good restaurant with a view, just located at the coastline. Try to get a table outside, even if it's a bit windy (we had to sit inside tough). The food was excellent, especially the Garlic Shrimp as a starter (take just bread instead of Couvert - bread & cheese, which is too much, even if shared by two). As mains we had the Grilled Wreckfish with butter sauce and the Alabote's octopus. Both come as big portions with lots of delicious sides (spinach, potatoes) and are well grilled/cooked. Unfortunately the main dish came far before we finished our starters which was simply ignored by the waiter. We didn't want to send it back to keep it warm until we finished our starters tough, so we had to hurry and the fish and octopus got a bit cold. Such a nice place, overlooking oceanfront. Food was very delicious, we took fish of the day for two, and the portion was more than plenty. For wine we chose pico wine. I decided to have my birthday dinner there and was very happy with the decision. Make sure to take something warm for the evening chilly breeze. Sunset views are marvelous from veranda. The atmosphere was relaxing and pleasant. The view across the street to the ocean is relaxing and beautiful. The staff was great. I’ve experienced dining staff in Sao Miguel that act like they can’t be bothered. This place is the complete opposite. They were extremely professional and friendly. We had a great chilled white wine and Lapas appetizer to starts. Fantastic! My wife had the fillets of fish with mango sauce. She enjoyed it but said it would have been better if the mango was made into a relish. I had the steak Frizzado Lombinho cut. Comes with hand cut fries on the side. Absolutely hands down one of the best Portuguese steaks I’ve had. Followed by a gallo coffee for my wife and an espresso for me. Definitely on my recommendation list and I will be going back. Went here twice. The food is okay, nothing special, absolutely not bad either though! The waiting times before you get food can be better. It’s a bit hit or miss. I do understand, as the place always seems to be very busy. This is an update to my original review: I’m going to up this to 5 stars. Went here again today for lunch and it was great. The cheese board was alright, the salad was very wet and drowned in cocktail sauce which ruined it. The fish was fired in egg (never ate this combination before) and the carrots overcooked. In the restaurant was super cold and to be honest, overall, I don't understand the high review score, this restaurant is mediocre at best. Don't recommend at all.
