STAY AWAY FROM HERE! Absolutely appalling service and coffee. Very rude staff, all of whom looked like they would rather be anywhere else. Girl on the till spoke far too quickly and we couldn't make sense of what she was saying. Asked the girl who was wiping the tables about the cost of the coffee, she was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Made a big deal about having to check the price. Eventually she came back with a print out of our transaction, slapped it down on the table and marched out. We will never come back here. We stopped at a much nicer cafe around the corner on our return trip south. The food was amazing and the service is great.

TLDR: very happy they had a couple small plant-based / vegan options in the food desert that is this area.
Food: While not able to make a full meal out of it, we were excited for vegan savory pastries / pies for a late breakfast in the country where vegan breakfast is almost impossible. The kumara and cashew pies were amazing! The veggie soup seemed a little canned or not freshly made, but overall was a good snack until finding a larger meal later.
Service: kind and willing to ask the kitchen about vegan options. Kitchen was quite slow with a cup of soup though.
Atmosphere: I'm sure some people may like it, but dead animals on the walls is usually a no for us vegans. Regardless, NZ has a hunting obsession, so I can't blame them. The restaurant was clean and that is most important.

Sign said closing at 4pm. Went in at 3.25pm hot drinks takeaway only and directed to fridge for any cold drinks. No milkshakes. Only food commercially packed. No seating inside chairs on top of tables.

Great selection of cabinet food, $.30 c off keep cup, great seating particularity outside among the beech trees, hence the name. Could have a bit more creativity inside like pictures and furnishing to make it a bit more homely, but I love the wooden timber structure.
Surcharge on public holidays. That's ok, fewer places do it now though. The staff are kind and friendly. Hopefully they can improve it from an average of 3.8

It's ok. Pie is the kind sold at BP. Not great. Not terrible. Coffee was not great. Burnt taste. For $8 you'd hope for more but you take what you can get. Doing lots of driving. Need caffeine, met the caff intake requirement so..
Btw bathroom was out of order.

Can only comment on the coffee & muffin I had.
Muffin was heavy and bland, filled a gap. Coffee was hot & bitter, possibly blend.
Service was ok for the volume at the time of day. Cashier was a tad too loud for me, dial it down a few notches.
They charge 50c for each take away cups. It'd better to tell us in advance. Also should ask what size customer want rather than just get large for them by default.

I regret no reading latest comments before stopping here. I will not be back.
Ordered the bacon buttie. Description is for fresh white bread and generous bacon etc. For $17 I had an expectation of fresh bakery bread, not stale basic bread from the local supermarket.

Nice that they have a playground for kids. Coffee was almost undrinkable with how bitter it is. Other than that, the food was good enough and service fine.
