Cafe Zagora is one of the largest downtown cafes on Boulevard Pasteur, across from the main office of BMCI. Two friends of mine rendezvous at Cafe Zagora almost every day, and they seldom complain.
The friendly waiters are very fast and usually remember what you like to drink and they don't forget your name. It has very good coffees, teas and is somewhat quieter in the back where there is one of several flat-screen televisions. Cafe Zagora serves breakfast also, which I've been told is quite good.
The cafe is simple, but has clean tables, comfortable chairs and the waiters are the type who remember your name and preferred cafe or tea you enjoy day after day.
There is some outside seating but expect lots of noise from traffic, honking horns and ambulances. The Cafe Zagora has reliably strong WiFi. The Cafe Zagora also has clean toilets upstairs.
From an old black and white photograph of Tangier that I have seen, taken in the mid-1960s, the place was for some years Restaurant Zagora, with food and alcoholic beverages served.
After "Morocanization" in 1974, the restaurant (and many other businesses) were required to have 51% Moroccan ownership and many of the best places reverted to cafes and no alcohol was served thereafter. Apparently, the high quality of service also declined and most such restaurants went out of businesses permanently, or reverted to cafes.
Now the Cafe Zagora is a large cafe, with two flat-screen televisions, comfortable seats, and it has a faithful clientele.
