We had an excellent dinner. Service was perfect, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and a perfect spot for a romantic date night. For beverages we all ordered cocktails, I had the bees knees- presentation was gorgeous, it had 2 edible flowers in it. Very tasty drink. We started with the sourdough bread app and chicken Milanese. I didn't get a photo of the bread.. 😔 the herb butter was really incredible. The chicken Milanese was very good and would be perfect if you are looking for a small portion as your meal. 4 of us split it and it was a great starter. Our party had steak frites, roasted chicken and salmon. The steak frites were cooked perfectly, the center was bright pink! The chicken looked flavorful and not overcooked. 1 personally had the salmon entree which was delicious. I loved the sweetness of the mandarin oranges on top. We had a great dinner at Chaplin! The food tasted delicious - both our entrees (steak frites and butternut squash risotto) were cooked to perfection! We also ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer and these were probably the best brussels sprouts I’ve had! We also had the sourdough bread and that was very delicious as well. We ordered the semifreddo for dessert and it was my first time trying this and I actually like it more than ice cream - it was surprisingly airy but very creamy and rich. The service was really great - the staff were friendly and attentive. The manager also came by near the end of our dinner to check in and see how we were doing, which I thought was so nice! I really like the vibes and atmosphere of the restaurant. We sat in the heated patio and I thought it was going to be cold but it was really nice and warm. I highly recommend visiting Chaplin! Chaplin is a good spot for a meal. Being new to the area, i decided to take a gamble on this place since the steaks looked appetizing. The ambience was mellowed and the crowd was vibrant. Their bar is well displayed and abundantly stocked. We were seated immediately, and were greeted by our Server Gio (I hope I'm spelling his name right). Gio took great care of us and treated us with the utmost of care. The bar had my favorite drink (old fashioned) on the menu, done with Four Roses bourbon. I must admit..... the old-fashioned lacked to a degree. But it was drinkable. To save my cravings for a good drink and not cringe at my failed old fashion, i ordered four roses neat. Instant save thanks to Gio's attentiveness and professionalism and consideration of my honest critique. All was saved and the exploration continued. Primarily, I went in gunning for a tomahawk steak but they no longer serve them 🥺🥺🥺 (i guess people were not dropping the big bucks on a massive investment like a tomahawk; i sure as all hell intended to) it was discontinued. So i digressed! I ordered their New York Strip steak medium rare and a Steak Tartare. The misses ordered blue crab cakes and Faroe Island Salmon with fingerling potatoes. The Salmon was pan seared, the potatoes were roasted. The crab cakes made my mouth water on sight. The misses said that the crab cakes were on and poppin and did not need the sauce it came with on the side. I'll take her word for it. I seldom sampled the misses meal. Because i had my own to sample and she don't do steak like i do steak (medium rare). Now Let me tell y'all! The crust on that steak blew my timberland boots right off lol (God i wish the tomahawk was still on the menu). The steak was tempered to perfection and it came served piping hot with a side of mushrooms, sliced spicy pepper and a whole head of slow roasted garlic cooked fork tender. Prior to that though. That Steak Tartare was put together nicely. All the works with a splash of lime and a good quality sea salt. Paired with the toasted bread on the side. Both those dishes were worth the money. To seal the deal we capped it with a Vanilla Semifreddo. Yeah i too asked Gio what that was and it's basically a spinoff of a parfait. It looked real good when presented at the table and it tasted way better than the normal parfaits i would regularly buy elsewhere. With all that said, i had a good first experience; i believe the misses did too. We will be coming back. Thanks Gio and our complements to the cheff. Amazing seafood and steak, and an absolutely beautiful dining room! The wallpaper is floral, and with the green walls, it feels very spring-y inside. If you’re a lover of surf and turf, I highly recommend sharing the seafood tower and a butcher box with your party. Everything is so fresh, and the steak was flavorful and cooked perfectly! Atmosphere, drinks, and service excellent- food was good and interesting, but some things I wouldn't get again. Loved the vibe here, the space is beautiful and the decor is thoughtful and comfortable and very photo worthy! The service was excellent Sarah was fast and attentive, we were really wowed by her! The food was good but not AMAZING. I'd get the oysters and the steak again, but not the bass and not the dessert. It wasn't BAD! So try it if you like it. I'd definitely go again to explore the menu more. Make a reservation for Saturday night after 7, and try a cocktail and a wine flight. Get the oysters and steak. The service we had tonight was very helpful, attentive, and familiar with the menu. I was thankful for the recommendation of the duck breast. It was so juicy, though I paired it with the caramelized garlic and butter from the bread 😅. The food was pretty good and certainly presented beautifully. Something I struggled with, however, was the organization of the space. It made me very anxious. Servers zigzagging between tables and frequent traffic jams makes the chance for accidents that much more likely. Also, it is such a pain if you have to get up to use the bathroom. There is indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. For reference on prices, we ordered 2 nonalcoholic beverages, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts, and with the tip, it came to about $180. We had an excellent meal today. The restaurant is colorfully decorated and very bright. As soon as we walked in, they took care of us and the service was excellent. For starters we had the pork belly which unfortunately was not crispy. It wasn’t bad but whenever I order pork belly, I always want to have it crispy. For our entrees, I had the steak sandwich with a side of salad; it was delicious. Great flavor and a nice portion. My girlfriend had the charred octopus and she loved it. It was perfectly cooked. Came here for my birthday dinner. When we walked in it was busy which is a good sign. Luckily I made a reservation. The start was not too good since the hostess was overwhelmed and rude to me but I let it slide because she was not worth ruining my night. Our server was sweet but she was definitely overwhelmed as well and a few of the servers seemed lost. We ordered a few appetizers. Oysters, olives, meatballs, and crispy brussel sprouts they were all delicious! For my entree I ordered the steak with crab meat on top, sorry I do not have the name, I couldn't remember and could not find it online. It was an 8 oz steak but they ran out so I had to get the 10 oz which is too much for me but I really wanted the meal so I accepted. My steak was not cooked correctly. A few of my friends steaks were not as well. So maybe the chef can work on that considering the prices here are higher than most places. My meal was served on top of mashed potatoes and I was confused on how my steak was over cooked (well done) but my potatoes were sitting in blood? It was a huge turn off but we waited a while for our food so I ate it. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop, it was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. My sister got the half chicken with polenta which was delicious. My bestie ordered the octopus which I normally do not eat, but tried and it was cooked perfectly! Tho I was not satisfied fully with my meal we did have alot of great food. The restaurant is beautiful and we did enjoy ourselves. I would suggest training your hostess on better customer service, more servers, and the chef needs to learn how to cook steaks. Other than that this place is awesome. A friend and I dined at Chaplin for the first time last week and we had an absolutely WONDERFUL time. Definitely one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in Connecticut this year! I ordered the Steak Tartare and the Charred Octopus. Both were fantastic and BURSTING with flavor! My friend had the Bass and enjoyed her dish just as much. Not only was the food great, but the service was FABULOUS, as well! Many thanks to our server Samantha and also, Walter, for an overall AMAZING dining experience! I've got another reservation tonight with two different friends (first timers) and we can't wait to try some of the other dishes available on their menu!
