You go through an office building to get to this restaurant. In fact, a part of the office building has been retrofitted to create this restaurant inside. Nicely done. However, when you look at some parts on the ceiling, you are reminded that this is an office building. Overall, it’s a very good experience all around. Is it worth the cost? That’s debatable. Instead of bread, they serve pita bread pieces alongside vinegar sauce, oil infused with cheese and melt in your mouth garlic cloves - very tender. If you’re ok going for a non-alcoholic drink, I would recommend the Pineapple ginger. Buttermilk calamari recommended for appetizer. For the meal, we ordered ketchup today which was mahi-mahi. Surprisingly pretty spicy actually but very flavorful at the same time. We also had filet mignon which was juicy inside and crusted on the outside. Great food and even better service. We went for their weekly special which was monkfish wrapped in prosciutto and also an almond cake for dessert. Both were unique and delicious. We also had some great recommendations for wine and an appetizer from our server, who was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a nice wine selection as well. They do a lot of events like tastings and wine dinners too. We will definitely be returning to try more of the menu. Finally got to try this place - and I have to say, I haven’t had a great restaurant first visit experience like this in awhile!!! I went on a date here with my boyfriend and we wanted to go somewhere a little extra special. We have heard great things about CityGate from our friends who also live nearby. I have to say, I was a little skeptical walking up to the place seeing that it was inside of the Calamos Investment building, it just threw me off, but that said, we were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful and elegant the inside of the restaurant felt. It felt kind of exclusive. We came in a Friday night and we were treated to some live jazz. My boyfriend and I both said we felt like we were on vacation. Some couples got up and slow danced together which was sweet and fun to watch. But I have to say, my favorite thing about this place is the warm pita bread with roasted garlic cloves,olive oil, and fresh parmesan cheese - it was absolutely delicious and a pleasant/unique twist to being served fresh bread and butter at the beginning of a meal. I recreated this at home a couple of times. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive and the wine selection was excellent. Our steak was a 10/10. My husband and I went for his birthday. Genesis was our waitress! She is amazing! She made sure our night was perfect and made us feel special! The food was great but the jazz band trio was the best!!!! We loved the restaurant so much that we came back the next day for drinks and to watch the next jazz band! Thanks again, Genesis! Nothing too special. The salad was the best. Winter salad, with steak. The soup I definitely do not recommend, it tasted like canned soup, and it was hard to eat. The mahi sandwich was just okay, kind of fishy, nothing special about it. I would definitely not recommend it. The ranch was really good to dip the fries in. This was a total surprise to us, pleasantly! We had an OpenTable gift card and give it a try, reviews were mostly good and menu looked delish. It’s hidden back in an office complex so you really have to know about it to find it. We were hoping to sit outside but it appeared like that was for events so we sat in the bar. (We typically avoid the dining room if possible). The bar was empty so we chose our table (I’m not sure if I’d sit here again though because there’s no view at all and service was super slow). We were greeted pretty quickly and offered to order drinks. We like to settle in before ordering so we usually have a drink first and talk. It was a bit of a wait before our waitress came back to check on us and each subsequent sighting of her became further apart. We love to share a wedge salad, so we started there. It was good but I prefer it chopped as this was a tight head of lettuce and really tough to cut. There could have been a bit more dressing for the amount of lettuce but it was a really good wedge. We then ordered dinner, my husband had the medallion and based on the reviews I chose the skirt steak. It was a long time waiting and the room temp was really cold, I ended up walking all the way back to the car for my scarf. When our food finally arrived it was so good! Hubby’s steak was perfect, the loaded baked was not really loaded - interestingly baked with cheese on top but butter and sour cream on the side which meant we had to mix it. We do not request it on the side so this must be how it comes, another bit of a struggle to get all mixed together well. My skirt steak was perfect, medium rare and delicious! Grilled asparagus were perfect tender crisp but tough ends not trimmed. So again (I’m working to get my food right). But it was all perfectly cooked, next time I’d order with more instructions. We did not order desert because we were very satisfied, portions seemed perfect for us - not huge but not skimpy. We rarely saw our waitress, she left the check and never returned so we ended up flagging the manager down. He was really the star of the night, had stopped by with bread early on and welcomed us - checked in midway and graciously got us checked out at the end. He understands high end treatment! Overall, the food will bring us back! The ambiance was lovely, would probably sit in the restaurant instead of the bar for a view and in hopes of seeing our server more often. Great atmosphere. I wouldn't have guessed when I parked. The food is ok, nothing too exciting for the price you pay. The food is under-seasoned. The staff and servers are fantastic. You definitely pay for the environment. Overall, it’s ok. But I am happy we got to experience this place. Service Dine in Price per person $50–100
