I liked everything about Fava Tonka. The atmosphere is great with a lot of plants, the dishes are served in beautiful ceramics, the service is friendly.
But the best about this place is the food. The association of flavors and consistencies is brilliant.
I would love to come back!

Best vegetarian restaurant in Portugal. Such a unique gastronomic experience, from the beautifully crafted dishes to the superb service. Absolutely loved the beet and leek entrées and the melon dessert. Many gluten-free options as well. Can’t wait to return to Portugal to visit this place again 😊💜

Always a pleasant surprise! It was my second time there and I still got absolutely amazed. Every dish is a extremely well though, combining fresh and high quality ingredients with inspiring composition and techniques. A gastronomical experience.
Hands up for the beautiful beetroot with stracciatella and black garlic ice cream, and for the watermelon, algae and kimchi dessert. A party in the mouth!

Wow, just wow! I'm not a vegetarian but I absolutely loved this place! The food was PHENOMENAL and the service was quick and kind. They spoke English very well and handled food allergies well. The combinations sound weird, but they're so good. Highly recommend!

One of our top two meals during our stay in Porto (other was a Michelin 2-star). Amazing vegetarian menu, all dishes thoughtfully and creatively prepared. When we dined here, the focus was on mushrooms and we loved everything we ate. The service was warm and gracious. We wish we had a restaurant this delicious, inventive and affordable in NYC; then again if it existed, we could probably never get in. Kudos to the chef and his wife for creating a very special experience for everyone (not just vegetarians).

Despite being such a small country, Portugal seems to be at the forefront of the vegetarian modern casual/fine dining scene, with restaurants like @senhor.uva , @arkherestaurante , @seiva.restaurante kicking up a storm and on an even more high profile scale, @encanto_joseavillez by @joseavillez recently picking up a new star from the @michelinguide
We had one night in Porto on our way back south and after a week filled with meat, we had our hearts set on something a little different. Along came @favatonkapt which has been on my hit list for a while, set in a quiet area of Matosinhos. A new seasonal menu (recently launched) filled with rich rooty goodness. Highlights for us were the wild mushroom pie, served with a really meaty stout sauce... and the Cauliflower with nori weed & ajo blanco, finishing with a gorgeous seasonal pud of apple fennel and lemon.
@nunomdcastro has done at Fava Tonka what so many vegetarian restaurants fail to do, which is to fool your palate and make you forget that you are in a vegetarian restaurant. Bloody impressive and another one to recommend if you fancy something different in Porto.
The service and atmosphere were wonderful. Couldn't have asked for a more pleasant evening.

Fava Tonka has a great, modern and clean atmosphere, decorated mostly with wood elements and plants. The staff is extremely nice, from the booking, to the welcoming, making good suggestions and presenting the dishes. However, the food is the main star, being exquisitely prepared, everything very tasty, innovative and creative. The best restaurant I have been to in years, I highly recommend it both for vegetarians and not! The price is adequate for the quality, having paid 70€ for two people, couvert, 3 dishes, 1 dessert and 1 bottle of wine (everything shared).

A fantastic place, the best food I had in Porto by a good distance. Many of the previous reviews mention that it is 'too expensive', I disagree. The value for money is great. Very high quality dishes, immaculate service from the staff and very surprising flavours. Also the wine was great and very reasonably priced. In northern Europe this would be well over 70€ per person whereas in total out bill was circa 40€ per person. The only small drawback is the location off the beaten track, but this also adds to the charm. A thumbs up from me 👍🏼
My partner and I were blown away by the fine dining chefs menu, and the price was lower than e expected for the high quality fresh foods.
They altered it to be vegan for us. What a treat! Beautiful interior, everyone was nice and it’s clear they care about providing an excellent dining experience.
