This is the best barbecue restaurant in Alabama! Everything is homemade, fresh and delicious. The barbecue pork is smoky and tender and served with a mild red sauce. The mac n cheese was rich and cheesy and the fried green tomatoes were crispy outside and soft inside. Much of the menu changes daily but pulled pork is always on the menu. Heards is out of the way but is worth whatever effort you have to make to get there. This was my 1st visit to Heard's. Had the pulled pork sandwhich.... VERY generous size and tasted soooooooo good!!! * New 2-3-24 Today I ate at the new location in Clanton. So excited that it is only 3 mi from my house! My husband brought an order home 2 weeks ago that he picked up after work. I enjoyed that sandwich just as much as first one. My dad drove down from Calera this morning to meet me & give it a try since he had been hearing so much about it, he also read an article online about the owner that impressed him. We arrived 30 mins before they open & ppl already waiting in parking lot. 15 mins before door opened, folks got out of cars & started forming a line in front of bldg. We were let in at 11, ordering went well *very friendly employees* & got food quickly. Dad ordered rib plate with mac n cheese, I got chopped pork plate with mac n cheese/coleslaw (& we got a pork sandwich to bring to my bro.) I really enjoyed the pork & Dad did, too. Ribs were ok. Talked with some ppl waiting in line who had gotten them here before & said meat falling off bone, it wasn't quite like that today although Dad & I both agreed the flavor was very good. Will definately go back and try some different menu items. Dad wanted to taste pigtails but they had already sold out of 1st batch & it would be an hr before next was done. Easily the best ribs in the state. Fuss all you want, that's just how it is. These folks have it figured out. The BBQ sauce on the side was very tasty, but the ribs didn't need it. Heard's is near the top of my list for pulled pork sandwiches in the state of Alabama. Get the spicy sauce. Thank me later. The man knows his ribs as well. Grilled for a few hours, they have a chew that's near-perfect. They're not long-smoked and they needn't be. Very simple, very delicious. If you are a true BBQ lover, a drive to Maplesville is mandatory. It's that good. Get there early!

A group of men from our church visited this unique place on August the 16th. It was our first visit. The BBQ sandwich was fantastic and the fries were great. There was a continuous long line to order food. This is a small eatery in a small town but would be A+ in any city no matter the size. Mr. Heard and his workers had a tremendous attitude and were very proficient in their job. Will definitely return. Ate here yesterday, had the pulled pork loaded fries, BLT and coleslaw. Absolutely the best barbecue I have had in a good while and the BLT was off. the. chain. The staff are so friendly, made us feel so welcome. I live at least 25-30 miles away from them, but will definitely make the trip to eat here!
