The female staff who seated us, took our order and checked on us when the food was brought out was nice and friendly on Saturday, 10 Feb 2024, late lunch. You did well. However, the shorter, curvier dark, long haired female we noticed was not as friendly to one of the customer who just arrived with 2 kids and wanted to sit out in the veranda. She insisted them to the table inside the main room but the customer just wanted to sit outside. Hospitality business thrives on good service, that one wasn't. And the brief light rain already stopped, should that be the excuse. We enjoyed our dinner out on the patio very much. It was November and a little chilly. But we were dressed accordingly. There had been a mix-up about our reservation made by our b&b host, and the staff did what they could to make us welcome. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the pear salad, the duck, and the pork belly. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. And make a reservation, especially on a Saturday night. Good restaurant nearby Waitomo Glowworm Cave. At the balcony, you can see beautiful scenery and a camp ground. We ordered beef steak, boneless beef short ribs, pasta and kid's pizza. Food and service was excellent, thanks chef and thank you to Page who looked after us. I had the twice cooked duck leg (amazing) and my partner had the pork hock, which she said was one of the tastiest dishes she has had on our trip. For desert, you can't go past the sticky date with butterscotch sauce, if that's your thing 😋 Definitely recommend a visit to Huhu if you are in the Waitomo Caves area. Exceptional meal. The best we’ve had in our week in New Zealand. We had the beer battered fish and chips, mushroom fettuccine with bacon and paprika chicken with Israeli couscous. Food was delicious and meal portions were just right to have room for dessert. Highly recommend the apple rhubarb crumble. Excellent service. Took a long time to actually get served and an even longer time for our food to come out. Everything came out at the same time, appetizers (“small plates”), salads, and the main dishes. Steak was requested medium rare, and was served with a thick well done band around the center. Each bite was dry and grainy. Our server came to check on us a grand total of 0 times during our meal. Poor service made already mediocre food even worse. 2 stars. Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2

The staff was friendly and helpful. However the main we ordered was not to our liking. The salad and the dessert were good though. Forgot to take a photo of the 2 pieces of bread which to me was plain. And not to mention that the food are pricy.

There are not many "higher end" places to eat in Waitomo but this should be your stop if you want to enjoy some New Zealand flavours. Prices are comparable to a café in Auckland and represent good value in this range. The best dish was peanut butter parfait... An unexpected hit. And the duck was excellent. The other dishes were still very good. It does get busy so book ahead. The inside can get pretty noisy - we sat on the balcony overlooking the holiday park and was quiet.
