Besides Pergola da Foz, visit Ichiban in the vicinity. This restaurant is known for offering Japanese cuisine. Try good temaki, sashimi and monkfish. Tasty chocolate pie, fruitcake and cheesecakes may be what you need. Most likely, you'll come back to Ichiban later to degust delicious port wine, white wine or beer. The whole impression won't be complete without cortado that is great here. The intimate atmosphere of this place allows customers to relax after a hard working day. Many visitors think that the staff is pleasant at this spot. Nice service is something that people highlight in their reviews. Prices here are reported to be reasonable. Looking inside this restaurant, you can see the fancy decor. As for the Google rating, Ichiban achieved 4.6.

I had a nice meal with the family on a special occasion. Nice, quiet ambience. Attentive service. Great food and a variety of japanese dishes. A bit pricey but I think the quality justifies it. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €25–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Exquisite experience at Ichiban. Could say that the iberico pork ramen is probably one of the best ramens i’ve tasted in my life. The tenderness of the pork, the perfect noodle and soup. Portion is huge so i couldn’t finish, really wish i could. The atmosphere is top notched. You feel like in Japan but an elevated version. Great view overlooking the sea from the opposite side, friendly service, Asian fish chef. Highly recommended. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €15–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
We had high hopes for this beach side Japanese restaurant that always seems crowded. We had lunch and the sushi lunch menu. The pot stickers were excellent and homemade. We had another starter that was a substitute for an item they did not have and it was not great. We found the sushi to have been premade and not so fresh. The nori had no crunch. The servers were nice enough, but we thought it took time for the food to arrive. Also we had more Japanese tea, so the refill was surprisingly pricey. Porto has amazing fresh sushi so we found this restaurant to be quite mediocre. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €25–30 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Perhaps (still) the best Japanese restaurant in Porto. They have wonderful executive lunch menu on weekdays that is really worth trying - I recommend the sushi/sashimi paired with a glass of white wine. The fish is fresh and the cooking style true to its origins. The atmosphere is also very inviting and the service pretty decent. It can be hard to secure a table so I recommend booking in advance. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €35–40
There are a lot of japanese/sushi restaurant everywhere nowadays and it's often difficult to separate them from the quality of the their food. Ichiban is different onthis regard. The quality of the food is superior to other sushi style restaurant. The prices are also higher than most sushi restaurant but it's worth it, in my opinion and going the lunch menus are particularly worth it. The fried chicken was excellent the sashimi mix was amazing. The use fresh fishes from the Portuguese coast and the Azores island and prepare them perfectly. For dessert I tried the black sesame ice cream. If you like sesame you should definitely try. It's amazing.

What an amazing dinning experience from the menu to the interior all a culinary journey with many authentic Japanese dishes. From the Toro sashimi to the very simple seaweed salad offering the freshest fish I've had in quite awhile. All of our food was high quality preparation worthy of a 5 star rating. Nothing to be negative about here. I say check this place out. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €40–45 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Goyza

The Brazilian influence on Japanese restaurants in Portugal is quite unfortunate… as the concept of quantity over quality rules. Therefore, sushi places abound in the country, most with very low standards and an excess of tasteless farmed salmon. However, a few places survive amidst this trend that respect the Japanese culture of excellence and focus on quality ingredients of culinary traditions (in the same way that some restaurants in São Paulo also do, usually run by Japanese descendants in São Paulo). Ichiban is a prime example in Porto. I was ‘oh so’ pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant that focuses on local fish and ‘catch of the day’. Freshness at its best and, of course, producing absurdly good sushi. Everything I ate was delicious, and reminded me of my trips to Japan. The only downside was the gohan (sushi rice) - too cold for sushi, it became bland and slightly tasteless. But I know I’m not the average person when it comes to Japanese cuisine. I’ve been back after my first visit (pictured), and had the okonomiyaki, the shabu-shabu, other sushi, and the katsudon. All delicious. Cold gohan aside, it is still my favourite place in Porto. Highly recommend. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner

Traditional sushi place decoration, good views if in sitting at the window. Nice location for an after meal walk on the promenade. Starters were amazing, very surprised by the eggplant and liked the carapau. Fish quality above question, but the moriwase mains afterwards were too traditional, no fusion, which seemed strange after the starters. At desert, the goiaba petit gâteau was wonderful and unseen before. Nice selection of sakes. All in all good pricing at 35€pp.
Undoubtedly the best japanese restaurant in Porto. It's a cuisine that extends way beyond sushi, don't expect "fusion" stuff or western influence, the main word there is authenticity. That's why it's so great. The freshness and quality of the ingredients are flawless. Outstanding.
