I stayed at this beautiful lodge, with its beautiful scenery, beautiful rooms and beautiful people.
I spent 3 x nights (10 Oct to 13 Oct 2023) in a luxury room which was spacious and clean.
The bed and linen were so comfortable and cooling.
The bathroom is huge and so very clean.
The views from the room overlooks the river and animals came to drink.
The aircon was so welcoming on hot African nights,
The food was good all around and sumptuously prepared.
The lodge is tastefully decorated and feels luxury.
We were always welcomed with smiley faces and superb service.
The lodge grounds were so relaxing and was frequently visited by animals.
I enjoyed a relaxing massage by Sylvia which I fell asleep to.
The game drives were something else. We saw animals, birds, the Big 5 in all their magnificence. Bethuel (guide) and Ludwick (tracker) were so friendly, knowledgeable and ensured we did track the animals well.
An overall 5 star experience and would highly recommend Karongwe Portfolio..
We had the most INCREDIBLE experience at Karongwe river lodge. It's difficult to describe just how superb the hospitality and genuine kindness we were met with during every interaction at Karongwe. From the moment we were picked up at the Hoedspruit airport (by our Safari guide Matthews, no less) to the moment we were dropped back off, and every meal/safari ride in between, it was stunning. Our lodge was over the top gorgeous, and so big. We were not expecting the space, nor the air conditioning, nor the wifi. It was so unique and traditional, yet it had the amenities of a modern hotel room. We were in South Africa for our honeymoon and the lodge made us feel so special with romantic candlelit dinners and flowers + red wine in our room regularly. We saw the big five and more, ate the most incredible foods for breakfast lunch and dinner, and had time to relax in between and enjoy the beautiful pools at the lodge. We couldn't believe our eyes. You must go here if you can.
I'm not a good enough reviewer to explain how brilliant our stay at Karongwe was. We were fortunate enough to stay for four nights. Everything from beginning to end was an absolute dream. We were lucky enough to get Adolph as our guide for the stay and he was amazing, paired with Solomon as our tracker we saw the Big 5 on our first drive! Every animal on our list we got a great viewing of (and pictures!). All that coupled with good stories and humour! More than this though the friendliness and professionalism of all staff was heart-warming. We were made to feel very special and cared for. All of the buildings were beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The food was plentiful and delicious with enough variety to keep everyone satisfied. It was a relaxing, adventurous and luxirous experience we are grateful to have experienced and will hopefully one day return. We certainly left a piece of our hearts in South Africa here.
One of the best Safari experiences I’ve had. Amazing attention to detail in our cabin. The meals prepared by the resident chef were amazing, absolutely delicious, and the helpful and attentive staff went above and beyond.

from the moment we checked in the service was 10/10.
We had Sondi and Mosco as our drivers and they were AMAZING they made sure we saw the big 5 and did everything to make sure we had the best time.

Absolutely unforgettable experience at Karongwe River Lodge. Beautiful, spacious and comfortable rooms; delicious food; and some memorable wildlife sightings. We could not fault anything about our four-night stay. Highly recommend!

We were at Karongwe River Lodge and cannot say one bad thing about it. Everyone was so friendly with us that they made our stay so special. Service is awesome, the guides are just perfect (special mention to Mathews and Collen, but everybody were nice and very professional), food was also great… To conclude, I would recommend it to anyone willing to stay at Hoedspruit!!
This was a brilliant experience! Serene location. Food was consistently amazing. For the safari, Zack & Earnest were literally the best guide and tracker duo out there! Zack was extremely knowledgeable and extremely funny.
