Very glad to have this neighborhood place with casual atmosphere and light options. We came twice after dinner and had some snacks. The tempura shrimp are tasty, but I feel is a little lacking in terms of texture (a little soggy) and flavors (strong baking soda aftertaste). The sashimi items are excellent. This is my favorite go-to sushi lunch in the area. I love the black magic roll, spicy tuna crispy rice, the hamachi hand roll, and really everything on the menu I’ve tried is a star. Casual modern atmosphere and always impeccably clean. Ordering is done at the counter or scanning QR code at your table and order from your phone. Kema by KENAKI is certainly a nice new additional to the Cabin John Village Center. The service courteous with options to order from the counter or scan the QR code. The pictures on the ordering website is self explanatory, so there is no need to ask questions. But server can be called had customer has any questions. The food is fresh and tastes very interesting in a delicious way. Not like the traditional Japanese rolls etc, it has many touches to enrich the food with multilayers of flavor. The food also resonances with recent trend on focusing on texture of the food. For example, the crispy rice cakes I’ve been longed for years (one of my childhood favorite when I was in Chengdu), was toped with spicy tuna. The crunchy outside and the soft sticky rice inside themselves are good enough, combines these with the spicy tuna, makes it a perfect small plate. Nice to eat, but also fun to have it.

I really liked how fast the service was. You were able to order from your phone or go up to the bar to order. The food was brought out within five minutes of being ordered. The service was really nice and the food was some of the best I’ve had in the area. Parking is ample and, it was very quick for us to get a table on a Friday night. Easily some of the best sushi in the DMV area. Would recommend for a quiet and relaxed date night spot! Super cool vibes, delicious and creative food, fresh fish, would definitely recommend and return! Kema is similar to Kenaki but a little faster pace. That doesn’t mean the food quality suffers. They have some hand rolls that are insanely good. The tuna on crispy rice is one of the best in the area. Some of the great rolls from Kenaki are also on the menu so don’t skip those. Love love love this new Japanese restaurant! Quick, efficient and the food was fresh, tasty and the presentation was 5 star! I loved the unique Saki jars that you can take home with you ☺️ and the warm Saki and cocktail served in-house was really good. I was surprised at how delicious the gin cocktail tasted. The decor is beautiful and I love the energy and service provided by the manager and the staff. This place is a different concept from their full scale Gaithersburg restaurant location “KenAki” so I can appreciate how they are matching the theme of nearby restaurants, where you can order at the counter and the food is brought out to you. Kema did not disappoint. Similar to Kenaki, but the hand rolls are delicious and super fun. I’m always a big fan of the fatty tuna, but you can’t go wrong with any of their dishes. Chef Ken really knows his way around fish and the rice for their roll and bowls is the best around. It’s fast casual, so you do get up and order and pay at a register. Great fast casual experience. This means that the menu is compact, you order at the counter, and the food comes out FAST. The food, like their flagship restaurant Kenaki, was delicious and flavor-packed. Ordered the salmon+mango hand roll, new spicy tuna, and karaage plate, all of which were very good. Both wasabi and ginger also tasted great. Will come back to try the rest of the menu!
