This has got to be one of the biggest restaurants I've ever been in. The place is huge. The menu is huge too. As are the servings. They're not overpriced. That's the best thing I can say. They don't make their chips in-house. They're salsa is literally just tomato sauce. I had a beef dish that was very salty and just a mess. Too much mushroom and onion on top. Way too much cheese. The beans and rice were pretty flavorless. My girlfriend had a shrimp dish and all the shrimp was overcooked. It came with a garlic bread that looked like a hot dog bun with garlic butter on it. The drinks were good. The atmosphere was nice. Marcela waited on us. She was very attentive and offered plenty of options when I was indecisive. Our drinks came out fast considering we were here on a Friday night. I ended up ordering the stuffed catfish. It was okay, I think the stuffing (shrimp) was missing seasoning. Originally it was supposed to have a red sauce but I asked for it in the side. Glad I did, it’s basically enchilada sauce and I don’t feel like that belongs on sea food. I was craving Mariscos and happened upon La Maria in Haltom City. The greeter at the door was very friendly and found a table for me. My waitress promptly introduced herself, brought me a menu, brought a bowl of fresh chips and warm salsa. She wasted no time in taking my drink order I ordered a Michelada and since it was a little chilly out and I chose a bowl of sopa de pescado. I was not disappointed! The Michelada was not overbearing and had great flavor. The caldo hit the spot! The portion was large and seasoned perfectly. I can't wait to come back to try other entrees. I was there early, 5 pm and the place was not rocking yet so the music was at a reasonable decibel level. I had a hard time ordering since I had to point a lot but I think i got what I wanted. The drink was not cheap, neither was the cheesecake. ( i actually asked for flan) The ceviche itself was decent but the outlying shrimp was not very fresh.
