Olde New York is an excellent place for a meal out! They also have a full bar, tempting desserts and appetizers to please every palate! They have the best beef stew I’ve ever had at a restaurant (it’s Ghoulash on the menu). The steaks are great! Bonus for serving mashed potatoes straight up, without garlic. Salads are fresh, with lots of mixed greens. The customer service is excellent, and the atmosphere is great too. It can get a bit loud, definitely not a place to go for a subdued dining experience. If you’re in State College and trying to experience some of the local flavors, it’s a must-try! Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

Met a small group for lunch here. It was only my second visit and that had been many years ago. I was a huge fan of Schnitzels Tavern when we lived in Bellefonte and was looking forward to some good eats again. Upon arrival, the place was packed which was surprising given it was a weekday. My friend and I were immediately shown to our reserved table where others from our group were seated. Jeremy K., our waiter, quickly arrived and took our drink orders. Looking over the menu, I was torn because there were so many yummy items listed. Even the daily special of skewered shrimp sounded tempting. I decided to go a bit light and ordered The Dipper sandwich. Most of the group seated were going for the big hitters, the schnitzel, but since I'm not a big luncher, I decided it might be too heavy for me. Food arrived promptly considering our table size of eight and the number of other patrons packing the house. My shaved prime rib with melted mozzarella on a soft roll was outstanding. The au jus for dipping was tasty and just the right touch. The only criticism I had, and it's just my personal taste, would be having a nice smear of horseradish or a spicy creamy mayo to go on the sandwich. But it really didn't matter and I enjoyed every bite. My side option was a nice potato salad. House made per Jeremy K. and it was a good choice. Others at our table enjoyed their schnitzel meals. After seeing the size of their plates, I'm glad I stuck to my sandwich. A few got the shrimp special and it looked phenomenal. No complaints heard either. Some at the table ordered dessert - an Irish type cheesecake. Others got it to go. From what I saw (and heard), it was divine. My to go order was the Brat Plate that I was taking back to hubby for his supper. Two sausages, sour kraut, and a large potato pancake. Let me just say it was very much enjoyed by my PIC. Bathroom very clean and well stocked. And service excellent. Jeremy K. was very friendly and attentive. We all left happy. Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Great spot with delicious bar vittles. This is a spacious restaurant with a large bar area. Small but decent selection of taps. Far enough off the main step so as to not get too much of the college crowd. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This place is a must go to when you go to state college, it's out of the downtown area which is nice. The food is always good.. I recommend their soft pretzel, I also recommend any sandwich they have as I've tried almost all of them and have not had a bad one yet.....I always come here and eat there or at least try to eat there if I can .... If I could give this place zero stars I would. I was absolutely appalled. I walked in with high expectations for a satisfactory meal and left with anguish. I ordered the dipper, promising me a prime rib sandwich, a delectable meal. Unfortunately, I was met with anything but that. I was served a sub par roast beef sandwich with absolutely no flavor. This place should be shut down for blatantly lying to customers. I will not be back for more. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
Love the vibe of this place. Good service and great food. Pieroges were fried and just like I rememerb as a kid. Enjoyed their Delancy St, aka Reuben, and my mom liked their chicken 🐔 salad 🥗 as well. Would definitely make this a stop if coming through. The restaurant was busy. The service was great. Our waiter was friendly and customer service was great considering how busy they were. Our food came out fairly quickly. The goulash is very good and one of my favorite items on the menu. We will be returning again soon. I like the atmosphere here, but the service and food weren’t that good. I won’t be coming back. The price is not worth it for the below-average food. Pierogies (6/10): I actually liked these. I wish they were more crispy. But they were creamy and good. They had a special homemade taste to them. NY Strip (2/10): Terrible steak. Steak was so chewy, with lots of tendon inside. I ordered a mid-rare, and it came out rare (check photo). The mushrooms and onions were very soggy and seemed like they’d been sitting for a while. The mashed potatoes were okay, but I’ve had better instant mashed potatoes. Mac and cheese (5/10): Very average mac, not enough chicken
Olde New York is a German style bar and restaurant, but also has some deli style sandwiches as well. Most of the beers are German style as well. The service wasn’t terrible, but the bartender did not seem like he wanted to be there. The pierogies were really good and they were topped with cheese, onions and bacon. I got the Brooklyn sandwich, but it was pretty dry in my opinion. It had a horseradish sauce, but there was hardly any on the sandwich. They make a pretty good potato salad as well. I had never been there before. Went at lunchtime and ordered the Ruben Fries as an appetizer. Absolutely delicious. They'll change your life. I also ordered the Bavarian Schnitzel which came with spaetzle and rotkohl. Very generous with with their portions. Interesting blend of a restaurant. All of their sandwiches are big deli sandwiches named after places in NYC. The specialties have German cuisine. No matter who you bring, you'll be able to find something for everyone. If you're visiting State College or Penn State and don't want to deal with the traffic and congestion of downtown, head up Rt. 26 to Olde New York (just minutes away) and you won't have to worry about parking or crowds. It's located in the Giant plaza. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Bavarian Schnitzel
