I stopped in and had lunch and ordered a braised pork belly, delicious 😋 The restaurant is open for lunch and upstairs dining for dinner in the evening. Cindy is your host while her husband Steven cooks an amazing menu of Chinese dishes. They are located at 117 Hardy St. Nelson. The best Chinese restaurant in town. Very authentic flavor! They have very nice dining in area upstairs. Great decoration feels very comfortable and relax. Highly recommend the spicy beef noodle soup! Tofu dish is very nice as well. Fresh ingredients with Reasonable price! I came to spend my Christmas here from Christchurch. I'm delighted to have found this Chinese restaurant that perfectly suits my taste. My favorites are the hot and sour fish and pork ribs with Peking sauce – they're absolutely delicious! It's a pity Christchurch doesn't have Chinese food this good. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Living in New Zealand, I've had the tried many Chinese restaurants, but the Oriental Restaurant in Nelson truly stands out. It's rare to find such authentic Chinese cuisine at such reasonable prices here. The chef's skill is evident, with the Dongpo pork elbow and claypot rice being my personal favorites. These dishes alone are worth a visit. Oriental Restaurant offers a dining experience that's hard to beat locally. We first visited for dinner as we missed Chinese food while traveling around the South Island. The food is amazing and really really hits the spot. It’s authentic, flavorful and fresh. My whole family and I were so happy with everything we ordered, we came back again a second time the second day we were in Nelson. The standout dishes were the hot and sour soup, green beans and pork, roast duck, sizzling plate beef, prawns, and braised beef noodle soup! The owners are so friendly and lovely as well, it’s really hard to find a good Chinese restaurant in NZ, and these lovely people did it!! We are really sad that we probably can’t come back to eat here anytime soon as we don’t live in Nelson, but the rest of you are lucky to have them!
