Chefs Soup of the Day
On our first night, we had to choose between two starters, three mains, and two deserts. The starters of soup weren't great, and the lamb was raw. My wife's was fine. Unfortunately, we both went to the room hungry as the portions weren't really up to task. However, she really enjoyed her main course. The owners were present and had the choice of ribs or burgers, which we did not have. We would have preferred the option to dine a la carte.
We sent plates back with every meal. Meal 1 was still raw and cold in the centre. Meal two was cooked exactly to the opposite of what we told the waiter how we liked the dish, and meal three was plated to the brim with peanuts - which we are allergic to - (yes, we told them we were allergic - we told them twice. On email and with the tick box on check-in).
The one item that we can't critique was breakfast. Hearty. Very well prepared. Excellently put together. It was great.
If you decide to dine at Patat. Ask for Delecia. She was the star of our stay!

RESTAURANT I LOVE… Patat Restaurant
Under the shade of the 190 year old pepper tree, on the grounds of Swartberg Country Manor, you will find a little taste of heaven. A small restaurant with a big heart. Chef Pierre Basson treated us to such magnificence that if I hadn't left after two days, I would have rolled all the way home.
The restaurant has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and a 180 degree view of the Swartberg Mountains. We were treated to a full moon rising, exceptional service and truly decadent, wholesome food. What a treat!
As my new keto life directed, no sugar and no gluten allowed. I had completed my dietary requirements a few days before I arrived… without having seen the ridiculous deliciousness on offer. I was also traveling with a vegetarian - apologies chef!
Pierre prepared the most delicious gluten, sugar free and vegetarian food this side of the Southern Hemisphere… and then I crumbled and ate the chocolate brownie too! I have lived with chefs and I know that this is just not what you do! If you order the special stuff, don’t eat the “normal” stuff! But I caved and I loved it and Pierre was just delightful and took it all in his stride.
From the ostrich carpaccio to the karoo lamb chops and green fig creme brulee, everything was world class and simply delicious! The baked goods and the fresh (straight from the garden) produce was a highlight and left me definitely wanting more. Thank goodness we still had breakfast and a picnic lined up for the next day. It was all utterly delectable. Thank you Pierre and Patat, that was an incredible experience!
In the middle of nowhere you’ll find this beautiful place and great restaurant. Absolutely delicious food, the Oestrich filet was my personal highlight - just perfect.
Great service, nice people and a overwhelming view to the mountains.
A must for your trip through the country!
Awe inspiring views in my humble opinion... What a beautiful setting with even more beautiful people. Very friendly Staff and loved the restaurant with surrounding majestic mountain views.
