Hirikettiya Beach is very beautiful and a paradise for surfing beginners. Even kids can enjoy swimming and surfing. Sandy clean beach. Because of Sea Breeze Restaurant we were able to enjoy the day out at Hirikettiya Beach to the fullest. Although crowded staff helped us to settle comfortably and the food was amazing. I love their banana smoothie. Service is super friendly and efficient. They treat their customers very well despite the fact that they are foreigners or locals. Prices are very reasonable and helped us to get kids friendly meals without a hassle. Better to make a reservation on holidays. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person Rs 1,500–2,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Chips
Nice variety of breakfast just in front of hiriketiya beach. We had coffee + omelet but also coffee menu included much to eat so we were too full to eat all. Next time we will ask bowl of coffee and separate omelette + bread :)
Great place right on the beach that serves simple but tasty food for a very reasonable price.
The Hiriketiya-beach was very dirty (plastic and food was lying around the seaside and the sand). All the beach bars were very crowded and the "Sea Breeze" bar was very expensive. We wanted to see this beach as a strongly recommended one, but we had a very bad experience. The highlight was a skinny puppy that approached us so we went to the so-called beach-bar to buy some food for it and its siblings. They told us we can choose something only from the menu so we paid 5 euros for a toast. Later I asked the employees working there what was the reason they charged us 5 euros for a toast that a puppy cannot eat at all? They admitted there were lots of tourists asking for dog-food and they implied they like dogs. I think people who love dogs, do not sell toasts for them for 5 euros. Also, in a country where the basic salary is 250 euros max and the toast costs 5 euros, I would expect more sensitivity for the stray dogs and the nature. If you want to surf or enjoy a clean beach I strongly recommend Dickwella-beach which is 10 mins by foot far from this Hiriketiya-beach. Also there are hotels with beach bars with great food/drinks and logical prices. It is also the responsibility of the tourists the misbehaviour of these workers. Please be sensible as far as stray dogs (Sri Lanka is full of them) and nature is concerned. Pictures of the dirty beach and the skinny puppy eating the toast, uploaded.
If you manage to get there relatively early, like we did, you might be able to snag a sunbed or two in the shade. You can then order drinks and food throughout the day, and even move the beds into the sunlight and back as you please. Good food although the juices were a little more watery than I prefer.
Nice place to relax at the beach if you can snug one of the free sunbeds. The juices and sandwiches were good. Prices a bit higher but okay if you use the sunbeds. Service was okay but you sometimes need to make them aware of you, especially if you are lying on the sunbeds.
Location is the reason for two instead of one star. The curry was Ok, not really great as it should be for the price offered. The fish and chips consisted of deep freezed chips “industrial made” and what a suspect microwaved freezed fish, it was really bad! In contrast to the other beach restaurants this is not worth a visit. To high price and low quality.

Chillies chilly chill place on the beach to watch surf girls. Come early (before 9 am) to grab best sunbeds. They didnt charge us for sunbeds. We spent just a 1000 LKR for a plenty of cold drinks here. Also ate delicious prawns here for 1500 LKR.

Its a nice place 3 meters from the water and its owned by a Sri Lankan. (Compared to many other places around.) Go and support it. The food is good the view is awesome and the staff is friendly!
Total rip off! The fish of the day was mediocre, and cost us 4000 rupees to have dinner there. No, tourist trap for sure. Wouldn't recommend it to travellers on a budget.
