I wanted to like this bakery since it is new and the first actual bakery here in Rapid that I am aware of. However, we were disappointed with the food and also a bit by the lack of customer service. My sister and I both thought the staff wasn't very friendly. They weren't rude but seemed very indifferent and not very nice. The chocolate-orange twist was probably the best of the bunch flavor wise but was rather dense, chewy and doughy. The butter croissant was also dense and rather pale, not at all flaky as a normal croissant is. The morning bun was probably the best quality-wise, I've never had one before so I wasn't sure what it should be like. The downside with this one is that my mom got a sizeable chunk of plastic baked into her piece of it. Not a pleasant experience to bite into that at all. I don't want this to come across as all negative, I did only try it once and we visited last Saturday just before noon so they were picked over, maybe we just got the bad ones. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they were just having a bad day. Even though I was very disappointed, the other reviews seem to say that this bakery is good. I will say that they were very pretty treats at least.

Sweets, Treats, and Savory Wheats! A great bakery that is growing fast, rightfully so. Bread is always fantastic and very consistent with flavors, fluffiness, and has the perfect amount of crust. The treats are nothing to skip out on either! I always try something new each time I come in for some bread and am never disappointed. Great staff, great service!

This is, undoubtedly, the best bakery in Rapid City, and maybe the state. They are a sourdough bakery but their bread is not too sour - it’s the perfect mix of sour, soft, chewy, and crunchy. On top of their breads, their baked goods are unparalleled. I have tasted croissants across the world and would consider myself a lover of pastries. The croissants and “morning buns” (a croissant dough baked in a muffin tin and then tossed in cinnamon and sugar) are world class. For another treat, be sure to grab a cardamom bun (excellent flavor and texture) or their deliciously chewy cinnamon buns with cream cheese frosting.

I absolutely love The Sour. The staff is super friendly and helpful! Pete and Makenzie are wonderful people and really know what they're doing. You can tell they make everything themselves and take the time and effort to perfect each item.

The best bakery in South Dakota! The dedication to quality and traditional baking methods shines through in every bite. Whether you're a sourdough connoisseur or a first-timer, this bakery is a must-visit for bread lovers! Those layers! I'm obsessed! It's all ogre now!

Purchased apple butter and pumpkin spice pastries at the Pumpkin Festival this past weekend and they were a revelation! If we lived in Rapid, we’d eat here much too frequently. Peter was very kind. Good vibes all around, and they know what they’re doing in the kitchen. Frequent this place! You won’t be disappointed.

The sour is by far the best Sour dough bread and other baked bread and Pastry treats (talking about you croissants) you can acquire in the black hills.
Kenzie and Peter are genuine, knowledgeable and passionate about the way they handle their business and product.
You can tell how much care goes into their product by how great the bakes are.
The customer service is professional as well as personal, I always feel they genuinely are happy to have me in their bakery!
You truly won’t be disappointed stopping in and experiencing The Sour.
My favorites are the croissants, morning bun and just recently tried their sandwiches.
Can’t stop thinking about it. 10/10 recommend.

The Sour has quickly become my favorite bakery in Rapid City. The staff is so kind and the bread/pastries are incredible. I hope they’re around for years to come.

The varieties of sour dough breads are a wonderful discovery. Not cheap, but then you can see and taste the quality. Employees super helpful for such a very busy place. Not your grandma's wonder bread.

The sour bakery is a perfect place for a morning snack. The sour has many delicious options whether you have a sweet tooth or you like the savory side. I would definitely recommend their morning buns. The sour has a bunch of delicious options to choose from.
