Tino pai! The prices are on point and fish is fresh n chips (freshly made)fantabulous, good service. Probably the best fish in chips in Northland compared takeaways in Paihia. The smoked mullet is good too.

We bought lunch the chips were atrocious, the fish was terrible with the batter falling off as well as the deep fried sausages cut in half ,not to mention the hotdogs. Waste of our time and money as had to go get another feed elsewhere as this was pretty much inedible put in the bin .
Come in to pick up some fish n chips, we ordered the combo A. We live about 20mins outside of kaikohe and fairly new to the area. We also got some smoked eel. The place was tidy and the young lady who served me was friendly. However, when we got home and dug in. My 5 year old pulled a hair from her chip. We thought just let it go. As we continued to eat my partner pulled up another hair. I was instantly sick and disgusted. We stopped eating the food. I am 26weeks pregnant and this is just not sanitary, I literally vomited what I just ate. I initially did not want to write this, as I know reviews can have an impact on a business. I hope this review encourages the staff and management to consider there hygiene practices, before serving people who pay decent money. The batter was not cooked through and not drained. I do feel stink for saying this but some changes need to be made in order for the quality to be improved. Sorry to say I will not be returning here and would advise caution to others looking at coming to this fish shop.

I edited my original review & if I could change the rating to a -5, then I most definitely would. Over the past 3 days caring for my mother, I visited this business twice spending $183.00 collectively. In short, I would be embarrassed, ashamed, alarmed & also repentant of the quality of food, & the ridiculously inflated prices being charged for sub standard, miserable & paltry products. $3.50 for the woeful sized scallop, $2.50 for the pitiful oyster. Fish portions were wretched & meager, chips were a total train wreck, & the battered sausages were cut in half, additionally, everything which was battered almost completely came apart. There were items which weren't fully battered at all. To unwrap this in front of my elders & family was in short "Upsetting" to say the least!!! I remain completely unreserved in saying that this business will always & forever remain the most unpleasant, dreadful & appalling takeaway I have experienced "Hands Down" I look forward to your response. Located in the main street of Kaikohe township, this Fish shop sells first class fish and chips as well as wet fish and fresh seafood when available. I love their flounder!! They also have smoked fish when available.
Although small in size, their menu and selection is large. Many of the locals phone in their orders and pickup and pay on collection. Others place their order over the counter and wait in their cars - due to Covid-19 restrictions. 2 great systems that work.
The staff are efficient, friendly and hard-working. I highly recommend a visit to this little Fish shop when you visit Kaikohe township.
I'm sure I could see a mountain of what looked like the potatoe chips on bench top through the glass window to the kitchen, an it made sense as my chips were soggy (like they weren't frozen before cooking) when I received them.

I don't generally make or submit these sorts of comments and negative post, There is a but I ordered a chicken burger combo which was below average the chips were not crunchy and they had bits of leftover bits, I also ordered a pot of KINA ( Purple Urchins) I love my seafood they were rubbish tasted odd i can't put my finger on it it tasted like metal wasn't creamy and that salty the taste we love i will never order from this fish and chips takeaways again I tried discussing this with the owner but she brushed it off and said it not the KINA that gave me a sore stomach , I spoke to my whanau about the KINA the owner told me today that they got in a fresh batch today, I don't like saying this bug the chicken combo's at New World in Kaikohe are 5 STAR , Thomas's Fish Shop is -5 .
