Once again serendipity strikes! The town of Winters is the location of Putah Creek, a fly fishing location near Davis, California. Winters is also the location of Upper Crust Baking - a bakery owned by a young couple, already in business in a nearby town, that has taken over a bakery business, and is offering a really outstanding selection of really well made baked goods. Extremely good croissants, tarts, and breads. I talked with a really sharp, personable young woman who was the manager there. If she represents the bakery like that all the time, they will go far. So will she. There’s a full bakery in the rear that can be seen through the glass.
Much of the products are made there, some are brought by the manager early in the morning each day. They will soon have seating outside and offer breakfast fare to go or eat there. Energy costs have pushed up baked goods costs, and their prices reflect that. They are probably competitive but not cheap. But really good. Go there if you are local, or get off I-505 at Winters if you are not. Why not five stars? Well, their roll-out is not finished yet - outside eating, more offerings, etc., will have them over the top! An outstanding gem!
I love Upper Crust Bakery here in Davis! If you haven’t had the pleasure you should. Best scones and lemon ginger muffins. Excellent macaroons, not too sweet either. If you love donuts like I do they have those too. You can order pizzas and salads on Wednesdays! Delicious baked goods and breads, and the owner is sweet and the staff are very kind.
Went with my granddaughter to get some doughnuts for Sunday morning. She was a bit disappointed that they don't have doughnut holes on Sunday, but otherwise, everything was outstanding.
Glad they reopened our little town bakery. Everything is better prepared than before, the specialty pastries are out of this world but if you want something truly special wait until 30-45 minutes after they are open and you can have a hot freshly made apple fritter, your life will never be the same!! 2 asks, real milk cartons as an option, and we need a barista station and espresso machine in there!!
Really good pastries and the coffee is definitely above average. The service was nice. My only gripe is that the prices are much higher than I am used to.
The best doughnuts I’ve ever had! I would seriously consider driving from yuba city to winters just to get some doughnuts. The customer service was very neighborly and friendly. Also, their coffee was great! I filled up my yeti cup and only spent a fraction of what I would’ve spent at Starbucks. 10/10 recommend.
