First impressions location is not bad located close to a heavy traffic street. As soon we enter we get greeted and due to a big group just sitdown before us host Hala told us is going to take sometime to get our orders, we didn't have any hurry so decide to get a table. The bread and oil herbs was good (very tasty oil and the bread smoking hot) love it. Then we get our main course cheese ravioli ( supper tasty and yummy) in the pink sauce OMG amazing sauce, plus shrimp marinara with linguine (marinara sauce was definitely homemade) and some cheese garlic bread ( love the amount of garlic) and end with desserts. One of the lovely italian dinner I have craving for some time. Customer service was absolutely amazing, food was amazing and the dessert to die for. I will definitely return and share the place for future dinners. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Tiramisu
It’s been a little over a year since I’ve eaten here last. I was craving mushroom ravioli and remembered how good it was the last time I ordered. So fast forward to last night. I placed an online order for 3 mushroom ravioli’s in Alfredo sauce. Drove from Laurel and back. When I got home the Alfredo sauce was lumpy. I originally thought it was melted Parmesan on top. Then quickly realized i was completely wrong! There’s some type of flour or gelatin used to thicken the Alfredo sauce. There were several big chunks of this in the sauce everywhere. My food was disgusting and inedible! Wasted $45 and a hour driving plus gas, very disappointing! Definitely proceed with caution…….. Food was so good. Friendly staff. Vicinos is a longtime favorite. We sat outside. I particularly recommend the antipasto salad and the seafood linguine with red sauce. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes Garlic Bread
The food was great and the service was exceptional, a diamond in the rough. The eggplant parmigiana was great and chicken franchise better along with the linguine was a good side, then he brought us some Italian ice cream (oh my god) what a finish. My wife couldn’t hang so I had to finish the chianti, damn. Updated 12-5-22 Went back again for OssoBuco, everything was fantastic. Staff was great our waiter, maybe the owner? Was really friendly and attentive. Brought us a few things on the house and the portion sizes are extremely generous for what you pay for. Reminded me of family owned Italian restaurants in New Haven, simple good food without spending all your money. The house red was easy drinking and slightly complex, really pleasantly surprised , and they were very generous with their pours as well. Really affordable and worth the money. Long term customers. Tonight was wonderful - clams in white wine garlic sauce and eggplant parmigiana. Truly delicious. Fresh cheese pizza bites on the house and vanilla/chocolate bombe also on the house. Prices can't be beat. Old time family atmosphere. Come as you are and have a great time. You may be reading these reviews because you are curious whether Vicino is a good place to eat. Long story short: NO. We were curious. We decided to take a chance. We had just served dinner over at Shepherd's Table, working pretty hard for a few hours, and we were pretty hungry ourselves. We should have been wary when we walked in and there was no server in evidence, just one table of six people who looked done with dinner. When someone finally emerged from the kitchen, she told us to wait while she disappeared into the kitchen for another minute or two, before letting us know whether we would be authorized to eat there. (How I wish she'd said no.) We tried ordering garlic bread, and we were told that we'd be receiving bread with garlic and oil anyways, so we opted not to order garlic bread. Joke was on us -- we didn't get any bread until we'd nearly finished our entrees. I think whoever was in charge in the kitchen probably just didn't want to be bothered making something else. Let me reiterate that the service was awful. The two servers were busy hanging out with friend(s) in the kitchen, shrieking with laughter, and basically not doing much else. The garden salad wasn't bad, although the tomatoes seemed to be just on the verge of spoiling. It is a good few weeks after Christmas, but Vicino still has all of their Xmas decorations up, including strands of lights that blink at a rate that might trigger an epileptic seizure, even if you don't have epilepsy. This did not contribute to my enjoyment of the meal. I swapped out my dining chair, which was so wobbly it threatened to dump me to the floor mid-meal. I ordered eggplant parmesan as my entree. It was to be served with pasta. This meant I unfortunately encountered the marinara sauce twice. It has no flavor whatsoever. It's just canned tomato sauce, from what I could tell. By the way, my dining companions got their pasta way before I did. We had to ask several times for my pasta and for the bread. The eggplant was just okay. Edible. Once we received the bread (just in time for dessert), the waitress paused for a fairly long time, wondering where to put it. The table was covered with empty plates. She didn't seem to know what to do about those. I suggested she could collect them. We were each comped a quarter of a tartufo ice cream for dessert. I think this was in part to try to help us forget the meal, and in part to prepare us for the next event: having the wait staff inform us that our credit card had a fraud alert on it. We tried to run the same card again, same result. We tried the same account but with a card belonging to another family member, and lo and behold, it worked. I suggested there could be something wrong with their machine. They denied this -- and then as we were leaving, audibly mocked me saying so. Classy. At this point, we're just hoping they didn't also skim the card. And -- so far so good -- we're hoping not to get sick from the food. There are many, many more worthy restaurants in this area. Do not frequent this one. The food bears no resemblance to Italian food. And the restaurant staff bear little resemblance to restaurant staff. It felt like a bunch of teenagers had been tasked with running a restaurant for a reality show, and that they had opted to run the place into the ground. We really wanted to love this place and have been wanting to check it out for years. We did go for dinner and it was a cute “mom and pop” place, but it seemed a bit outdated and though the service was great, the food was unfortunately underwhelming. Either I came on an exceptionally bad night or the 5 star reviews are from people who've never had real Italian food before. I ordered shrimp francese, garlic bread, a salad, and calamari. The marinara is literally tomato paste and water, that's it. No salt, garlic, onions, nothing. The croutons in my salad were stale and even the garlic bread was flavorless. How does one ruin garlic bread? The calamari was the worst of all, a bland soggy mess. Easily the worst Italian food I've ever had, I should've known when I walked into a near empty restaurant on a Friday night the food was likely awful. Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Food: 1
An old favorite from when we lived in the area for many years. Wonderful that not only has it stayed true to why we always came (excellent food, great and friendly service, plus a welcoming atmosphere that feels like home), it has improved where it needs to and stayed consistent with what we always loved. White pizza with fontina cheese, red wine, and pasta with garlic & oil; can't go wrong, plus there's always more to discover. Highly recommended.
