The service and cleanliness of Viva Tequis was exceptional. This is definitely an establishment I will return to. My only small gripe would be the food was a bit bland. And I really hate leaving negative reviews. We started with Southwest Guacamole and chips. It was definitely fresh. I got 3 street tacos (barbacoa, tinga chicken, and a black bean and cactus) -- the black bean and cactus was VERY good and probably the only one that tasted like something. I believe they have a salsa bar, if you get the tacos, get salsa with it. My partner got the chicken and rice soup, if I was rating on the soup alone 5 stars, all the way, in fact, I'll probably get that next time I go. Highly recommend the soup! Amazing authentic Mexican food. Everything tastes amazing, fresh and clean. They have a huge variety of guacamole and salsa for chips. The tacos and burritos are amazing. My favorite here is the carnitas. The juice from the meat is unbelievable. There is street parking, but your best bet is to park behind the building. There is a rear entrance into the restaurant. Very good Mexican food & prices not bad at all. Lots of veggie options. I am off & on plant based, so got the chips, salsa & the guac with chile de arbol + tostada with cactus & spicy cauliflower on the side. Husband ordered a chorizo burrito and enjoyed it as well. The jalapeño salsa is very fresh and perfectly spicy! Would highly recommend and would definitely come back! Where to go on Saturday evening that's local and a great setting....let's try Viva Tequis Taqueria and Cantina downtown Gastonia. There's already good reviews, so I'll give it a shot. Parking anywhere downtown even in a small town on the weekends can be awful, so I always go about 430ish. They have plenty of parking in the back, but there's an outdoor concert and construction today, so parking was a bit more of a walk. If you park in the rear, you'll walk up the steps of the patio, then into the restaurant. Go to the front to be seated with a hostess. This place is mostly an al a carte type of menu, and yes, you will pay for chips and salsa. I recommend trying 1 or 2 of their guacamole! I had the Kiss your Mama with corn tortillas, and it was perfect. I ordered a black margarita, and I wasn't disappointed, so round 2 happened as well. They have a very wide selection of dishes, but I went with 4 different street tacos. Lengua, Barbacoa, Tinga de Pollo, and Camaròn. All 4 were excellent. Yes, beef tongue tacos are delicious! Decent Mexican food is hard to come by in the south, so I'll be back here to try a few more. I hear the flan was great too. This place is..... Maloy Approved.

The waiter was super helpful. 👌 The traditional guacamole was the chunky kind (I do like mine a little on the creamier side), but it was really tasteful. They have several types of guac to choose from. My street style tacos were yummy. I had the spicy shredded chicken, shredded beef and grilled steak ones. My fiance had the grilled steak bowl, which he said was really good, and he was impressed with it. The atmosphere does remind you of the streets of Mexico. Super cool brick work on the walls. Great place for Mexican food in downtown Gastonia. We love coming here because the food is so fresh and delicious. It doesn't make you feel bloated with MSG and fillers. The atmosphere is good. We like sitting on the patio when it's cool enough or at the bar. Try the hobanaro sauce... 🔥 🥵 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The berria tacos were the highlight of the show these were so bomb! The queso was not that great in my opinion. The one thing I didn't enjoy was the feeling of being rushed. I came there alone after a hike and needed to refuel on yummy tacos and I just wanted to relax. I felt like the staff was anxiously waiting for me to leave. Since I was there alone I wanted to relax and chill a bit and play on my phone. I must mention this place was dead in the middle of the day so I wasn't taking someone's seat. I'd come back for the tacos but idk I'm sure there are other places that are just as good with friendlier staff. I had the steak bowl and it was AMAZING! Went with a large group and the staff handled it just fine. The Rosita Margarita was lovely as well and I am not a huge marg fan. Will definitely be back! Ordered online and based on the price listed for tacos we assumed it was more than just one taco. When we got the food home it’s crazy to think after tax we paid $10 for two small street tacos, plain. I ordered a steak burrito and would say it’s nothing to write home about considering it’s just meat beans rice and cilantro. After moving from California, boy is it hard to find Mexican food done right. The chips and salsa were heavily under salted. I’m not one to write reviews and talk negatively about a business, but just wanted to share my experience. Some small adjustments could make this place excellent.
