It seems like more often than not, the tour guides always bring their clients to the lousiest places, and I knew something was fishy when our guide didn't bother to join us for lunch.
It started with confusion about what dish was what and who was supposed to get what. One party in our group was given the wrong order completely and they didn't want to serve another guy in our group beer. Then I watched another tourist approach the girl at the front and get told he can't eat here because all the tables are reserved. He then came back with our own tour guide and was given a table by another employee. There seems to be very poor communication and no consensus between staff.
Anyways, when they finally got everyone's orders figured out, the food couldn't have been more mediocre. They put TORTILLA CHIPS in our Lemon Soup, and the "Chicken Cooked Underground Yucatan Style" was tough and undercooked, and the rice and beans/mole (still not sure what it was), were very bland. The tortillas they gave us 5 minutes into the main course, has the consistency of cardboard and no flavor what so ever. The buns would have been good if they came with some honey or butter. I almost choked on them. I was forcing everything down and got back to Merida, hungry. The tortilla chips, green salsa and desert (which no one could figure out what it was), were the best part of the meal.
I am well aware that Mexican food in Mexico is very different from "Mexican food" in the U.S., but this was a sorry excuse for what was supposed to be "tradional Mayan food". Worst Mexican food I've ever had. But I didn't have high hopes for a place like this to begin with. Had I known the food would be so lousy and our guide wouldn't be joining us, I would have skipped the meal and spent more time at the ruins.
Even if you're staying in the area, try to find another place to eat.

Don’t go here!!!Food taste is fine but the whole family got food poisoned that we had to take turns to go to hospital for the rest of the trip. It was the only meal the family consumed that day so we’re pretty sure problem comes from here. It took us a whole week to be out of risk and we’re still recovering now. We’d like to sue the restaurant if there’s any easy way to do so. If you don’t like the high hospital bill and don’t want to ruin your trip, just don’t go!!!

I was almost deterred reading the previous reviews.
In short, the place has pretty good food. We got poc chuc, club sandwich, grilled chicken, and cochinita de pabillenterrada.
We got Jamaica (hibiscus) and that was delicious.
If you notice there aren't many other choices near Uxmal. This place provides convenience, good food, and good drinks. Don't let the other complaining American reviews deter you.

Typical PDC touristic place (overcharge and bad food quality). I am just tire of writing so many bad reviews of this insta-trap city.

Very tasty Mexican food at pretty ok prices, not cheap, but consider that this is the only option anyway. We loved the chips, the empanadas and the quesadillas. The empanadas were 110mxp which is fine. The food was great
Very friendly service and delicious food, especially the sopa lima.
