Once the promenade around the Mombetsu Sister City Park is over, visit zach's bistro. This bar offers you nicely cooked halibut, crab cakes and steamed mussels. Most guests recommend trying tasty ice cream, bread pudding and chocolate custard. Zach's bistro offers good chardonnay, martinis or draft beer among its drinks. Based on the guests' opinions, waiters serve delicious press coffee, French coffee or chocolate frappe. The homely atmosphere of this place allows customers to relax after a hard working day. The positive aspect of this spot is that the staff is accommodating. If you want to experience enjoyable service, you should visit this bar. From the visitors' viewpoint, prices are democratic. Zach's Bistro was a revelation. We were expecting a rather ordinary meal and received the most interesting and well-prepared meal that I have had in years. I say "interesting" in the sense that everything had something unexpected or a twist on the usual that was both wonderful and surprising. Best of all, everything was gluten free and safe for me to eat. The chestnut soup, clam chowder, fried market fish, potatoes, squash, and perfectly cooked broccolini were all terrific. Even the butter tasted more "buttery" than any we've ever had. There seemed to be an excessive use of sprouts as garnish for my taste, but I'm not a fan of sprouts in any form. The food was served at the right temperatures and the main course plates were warmed. (I appreciate that very much.) The decor is unexceptional and the ambience is a bit spare, but the music was delightful and at a nice low volume, unlike too many places. The bill was surprisingly low for the quality of food and service we received. We plan to come down to Newport more often just to enjoy Zach's Bistro. Highly recommended. We had a lovely Christmas set menu at Zach’s Bistro and would love to go back for a normal meal! As other reviewers mentioned, Zach is running the show himself so the experience is more like a gourmet meal at a friend’s place rather than a traditional restaurant—and that’s so refreshing and unique! Great cocktails and fresh, delicious, thoughtfully prepared dishes. Zach is clear and direct with his reservation system and menu, and we loved the unique offerings, like Rhode Island clam chowder and roasted chestnut soup. You feel like you are going over to a very talented friends house for dinner. We chose the four course. Plenty of food and a good way to try several different selections. The fish was well cooked with outstanding sauces. Starters are flavorful. Figure a two hour experience. Note: the perfect place for those with food allergies or restrictions! Cooked to order! One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The flavor combinations were unexpected and magical. I am glad I tried the chef's wine pairings. Two I never would have picked on my own that were both delicious and a perfect match for my meal. The courses with the half size options for salads and starters are a genius way to get to try more things without being overly full. Go curious and flow with the experience. I was very excited to try Zach’s and it did not disappoint. The crab cake was exceptional because it was almost all crab. The sprouts on top of cake were sunflower sprouts and I liked their flavor and texture. My entree of wine battered halibut was delicious and there was lots of halibut! The slaw was crunchy and flavored with vinegar. Before our appetizer we were served a slice of Spanish cheese and after the crab cake we were served a chunk of bread with cinnamon flavored butter. Both of these little extras were delicious. After our entree we had a light cheesecake (almost mousse like versus a dense cheesecake texture) topped with cranberries and hazelnut. I enjoyed the dining experience and was happy to find another lovely cafe for my visits to Newport. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $30–50

My husband and I went to Zach’s for our anniversary. I chose this place based on the reviews and we were not disappointed in the least! Zach was an amazing host. It’s a one man show all the way but he was very inviting and attentive the entire time we were there. The crab cakes were amazing. The best we’d ever had anywhere. The lamb chops were so tender and flavorful. Honestly if you want fine dining but with a “dinner at my friends house” feel. Zach’s is the place to go! And he has great N/A wine and cider choices too. It was nice to be back after three years and see that Zach is still making stellar food. My husband and I made reservations for two nights. The entire restaurant operation is run by the chef himself, and he knows what he is doing. From first course to dessert, the experience is wonderful and the food made with quality ingredients. We tried the 5-course meals on our first night, and 3-course meals on our second night. Portions were appropriate for the pricing and my husband and I left very full. Stop searching for “best food or best restaurant” - you have found it. Farm to table, with food or allergy consideration and European style kitchen service are the deciding factors. Be advised, you must call ahead and secure a reservation as Zach only takes a limited amount of guests each night, which allows for a highly personalized experience. This is my second review of Zack’s Bistro (first was many years ago). This is not lunch, or dinner - this is an experience, one likened to having your own personal chef, whom passionately strives to create intricate food delicacies, rich in smell and flavor. In our photo’s, you will see seven and five course meals, along with a solo main dish with salad. Zack’s is a place for “foodies” - there is not much more to say. We had an absolutely fabulous dining experience here with Zach! He runs the place entirely on his own, acting as host, waiter, and chef. The kitchen is entirely gluten free, soy free, and corn free, which was amazing for my mother. She has many food allergies but was finally able to order anything on the menu! The crab cake starter was delightful as was the seafood stew. There was an herb gluten free bread that was better that most any bread I’ve tasted. The scallops were to die for, and the strawberry filbert cake dessert was lovely! The menu is a little confusing but it’s totally worth figuring out. We all loved our meals and overall experience so much!
